Darius Vassell has completed his £2 million move to Manchester City from Aston Villa.
Vassell left Villa's pre-season tour of Sweden to fly to Manchester to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms after the two clubs agreed a fee on Monday. The 25-year-old has now signed a four-year contract at The City of Manchester Stadium, ending his seven-year association with his only professional club. Vassell has 22 England caps to his name but struggled last season with injuries, managing just two goals for Villa. David O'Leary had originally signalled his intention to keep Vassell at Villa Park, but decided to allow him to join Stuart Pearce's outfit. Pearce is rebuilding following the departure of Shaun Wright-Phillips, and has now signed a new-look strike force with Vassell joining Andy Cole at the club. Vassell will join Pearce's troops for training on Wednesday and will make his debut against either Sheffield Wednesday or Stoke, who face City over the weekend in pre-season friendlies. |
