Actually Xero Limit I heard a similar (and ridiculous) explanation once.

A friend of mine was telling me how they "really" have small blood packs attached to their foreheads which are skin colour to hide them, and that they basically pop/burst and blood goes everywhere.

And he geniunely "knew" that's what it was.
