If it is latex pait paint you just have to pick it off, I forget if there is any solvents that will remove latex. If you can remove the plates from the belt, I would suggest trying to dip them in paint thinner for a minute an see if that start anything.

I was thinking of doing that, but wasn't sure if it would mess up the plate. Any chance you know if it would be safe enough?
