Here's why this makes sense to me.

For the Million $ Man gimmick, the money was actually Vince's. Vince trusted Ted enough to not be blowing it left and right on bullshit. And Ted made sure he could be trusted.

If you can't trust a guy to act like a professional, why invest money in him? And the idea that Ted pretty much pwned him to his face makes it even better.

What money? That makes about as much sense as saying that they trusted Hacksaw Jim Duggan with the 2x4 not to hit random objects and do damage to property outside of arenas and such.
