Its not even the loss of Osi and the production (13 sacks last year, team high) but the whole mental aspect of it.

That is true but I think they will get over it unless more players start going down. The Giants defense always seems to be decimated by injuries every year.

Well if they move Kiwi back to DE they will still have depth, plus another player who is a natural DE, not a converted LB. However it remains to be seen who they will plug in at the SLB in place of Kiwi, if that move is made. I think Tuck will be able to produce, but there needs to be a viable threat or some damn creative schemes in order to maintain the Giants defensive philosophy.

Coughlin announced today that, for the moment (ie barring Strahan), the plan is for Kiwi to be at DE...Danny Clark starts at SLB with Gerris Wilkinson getting the nod at WLB.

Before this, they had 9 LB but likely only 7 spots. Kiwi, Pierce, Wilkinson, Clark, DeOssie, Kehl, Goff, Blackburn, and Daniels.

Now Kiwi's back to DE...and Goff might have to go on IR or the PUP list or something, so all of them probably are safe now.
