Vito did you listen to the press conference? It was such a joke and makes the Mets an even BIGGER joke of an organization.

I really hope this is the end of Omar Minaya too. Calling out Adam Rubin is ridiculous.

Joe and Evan were flipping out. Fans were calling in saying how the Wilpons are cowards for not firing Omar.
Joe and Evan saying how it sucks when a team is bad but at least there is hope. When ownership and management are bad, no hope in sight |

They can still potentially take a run at the wild card, but anyway:
-Fire Omar -Keep Jerry unless you can get Bobby Valentine -Keep Johan Santana, David Wright, Jose Reyes, Francisco Rodriguez, and young players (Francoeur, Parnell, prospects, etc.) -Trade anyone else for prospects...even Carlos Beltran. Obviously, don't give him away, but he's 32, 2 years left on his deal, lots of money, injury prone...if a team is still willing to give a couple really solid prospects for him, do it. -Sprinkle in SOME veterans. A problem the Mets have had lately is relying way too much on veterans. Need to have role players where it makes sense, not just for the sake of having guys with experience there. Basically, gotta get way younger and start building. The '69 and '86 teams were built on youth blossoming from the farm system. Gotta get to that level. |

The Phillies have to come down some time. Their pitching staff just isn't good enough to keep it going for too much longer, and their bats have pretty much reached their peak performance.

Mets.com Beat Reporter Marty Noble on expected returns from injuries:
-Before August 10: Gary Sheffield, Jose Reyes, Billy Wagner -Late August: Carlos Delgado -September: Fernando Nieve, J.J. Putz -Not Sure/Might Miss Season: John Maine, Carlos Beltran Hope he's right with some of those forecasts, especially Reyes. Although I must say Angel Pagan is doing a great job in the leadoff spot. Gonna be interesting. Assuming other teams aren't going to completely tank out of the race, the Mets need to go somewhere around 45-20 to be in the playoffs. So every game from here on out will sorta feel like a playoff game. Great Grand Slam last night. |

According to Yahoo sports the Red Sox offered the Blue Jays Clay Bucholtz, and two other top notch prospects.
If he goes to the Red Sox Major league Baseball is fixed. |

Why, because they have a superior farm system to and can offer teams prospects while still not giving away all their assets?
Really, it's not like they're throwing money around. Sure, they have the means to eat a salary here and there, or chase a big free agent, but the success comes from making smart moves that start at the bottom. They've built an incredibly productive farm system, and their scouting is second to none. A team like the Yankees doesn't really get much out of their farm system, and raids it often for trades that don't work out in the long run. No offense to the Yanks fans. Our farm system has given us players like Youkilis, Pedroia, Papelbon, and Elsbury in the past few years. At the same time, there are a ton of valuable prospects in development right now, and they've also come up with guys like Bucholz, Bard, and Anderson who are major trade bait. Let's also not forget Hanley Ramirez, who's value has been incredible both for the Marlins, and us (Josh Beckett). Moral of the story is, if it happens it's because the Red Sox farm system is outrageously well kept and scouted. Don't blame baseball because other teams make stupid moves all the time. Look at a team like the Pirates. They've pumped out tons of great players in the past 5 years and they can't put together a team that finishes over .500. Why is that? Because they manage their assets foolishly and don't get anything of value in return. They seem content with losing. Every team in major league baseball could reach a position of prominence if they manage themselves semi-intelligently. Look at Tampa Bay. |

Well, the whole lack of structured bonuses makes the Sox one of the few teams able to afford most of these players.
But that counts for both NY teams, LA, Detriot, philly etc |

Teams can build themselves into a respectable franchise though. I think a lot of teams have poor management who doesn't really care about putting together a winning team. A winning team can excite a market, and continue to grow.
As much as I hate the Rays, they've turned it around and they're actually building for the future. I commend them for not having a fire sale. I can't get over how many good players Pittsburgh has thrown away without getting anything in return. I understand that certain markets have a handicap when it comes to free agency, but there's really no excuse for making foolish trades and not being able to build something when that much talent is coming through the clubhouse. Instant success is too much to expect, but slow building can happen. If Toronto gets value out of Halladay they've made a wise move. At the end of the season a trade won't get them as much value, nor would a trade at next years deadline (since he'll only have a few months left on his contract.) They need to get some prospects now that they can build a team around. In 5 years they could be a threat if they keep building. |

Wow. Apparently the OF prospect in question for the Red Sox (Ryan Westmoreland), has a no-trade clause in his contract and he would ONLY leave school to sign with the Red Sox.

More bells and whistles are going off in Theo Epstein's office.
Red Sox trade Mark Kotsay and cash to the White Sox for Brian Anderson. |
