SO WAIT A MINUTE. Let's clear this up.

Say the Dodgers end up with the best record in the NL. They can't play the Rockies (assuming they get the Wild Card) in the first round, because they are in the same division right? That means LA would play either Philly or STL in the first round?

Yes, and they will lose to either of those teams in a playoff setting/pitching rotation.
