there's never been a legit reason mentioned as to why. But just from what I've heard from the more reliable sources over the years and to what actually makes sense; Savage was suppossed to be Vince's "Babe Ruth" type figure for years to come. Meaning he was the guy that was going to be sort of a spokesperson type figurehead during those years. He would be utilized to get talent over and out of the ring as well (commercials, apprearences etc....).

But Savage still wanted to wrestle full time. I believe what happened was WCW came in and offered Savage a huge contract. Either Savage never told Vince about this and signed or he tried to get Vince to match and he couldn't. But never the less, Vince felt betrayed by Savage for jumping ship and that's what I believe the heat has always been for.

Now that is more believable than the "Sex with Stephanie" rumor. That Stephanie rumor is like "The Ultimate Warrior is dead" rumor when Warrior returned briefly in 1992, it turned out to be false.
