Oh man Wade Barrett's new music is pretty sick, I thought I'd want them to keep the Nexus theme song but this one is pretty sick, love the end of days the world, vibe to it. This new group is like 10x more impressive then any variation of Nexus. Fuck I love Wade Barrett his promo was awesome. He's a heel who has respect for his enemies that's why he goes after them and wants to destroy them, it's the perfect motif for a credible threat like Barrett, it justifies all his acts that might seem cowardly as being smart and effective. He's really credible in the ring, the moments when he ust beat up the Big Show was sick and the image of him, standing over top of Show with the rest oof his grew in formation was awesome.

They may not have CM Punk but SD Nexus > RAW Nexus.

Another great episode. Feels like they are using less guys than ever but the ones they are using all looking good, liked everyone's role on this show (yes, even JTG). The Dolph / Edge World title program is already one million times better and more credible than that Paul Bearer bullshit. I could totally buy Ziggler as world champ with Vicky by his side.

And the best part is, the two groups can still interlink.
If Punk beats Cena and Barrett beats Show, they've both beaten the guy the other group leader couldn't beat. Hope they do something with that as well. |

I know I seems like I might love Barrett too much but I honestly think he's the first "quote unquote" toal package heel to come along in the WWE in ages. Not only is he charismatic but he's just got an it quality in his voice he just has amazing presence when he speaks it's like a voice you just can't help but listen to and want to listen to no matter what he's actually saying, he's got impressive size and strength and he's great in the ring to boot. There's really no weakness to him, he's got it all.

I really enjoyed Wade Barrett's promo on SmackDown! this week. I felt it was probably one of the better backstage promos I've ever seen. It's so simple, but his motives aren't bullshit "I'm a bad guy" ones. He justifies his actions. I also liked the way he referred to himself as a "conquering hero." In Barrett's own mind, he is the protagonist of the WWE universe.
For some reason, his new group (which I could see them calling "The Empire"), seemed a weird fit, even though I like both Gabriel & Slater and they've worked with Barrett before. Maybe it's just because they weren't wearing Nexus shirts? Ezekiel Jackson works so much better as a heel, and it makes sense that Barrett would want a powerhouse on his team. Skip Sheffield would have worked if he were still around, but he's out, so Jackson will do. The main event segment had its moments, but Ziggler seems nervous. I hope he gets his shit together, because this is his chance to really impress. I felt the promo exchanges between Edge and Ziggler could have been better, and more pointed. It's like the World Heavyweight Title is barely an issue. How about Ziggler suggesting to Edge that he's looking into a mirror of himself a few years ago -- only younger, and with more upwards momentum? Something to really play Edge against himself. An old lion vs. young lion sort of thing? Vickie Guerrero was spot-on, and actually better than Ziggler in the promo department. The Edge/Vickie stuff with Edge eventually deciding to Spear Vickie after walking away because she was gloating that Edge couldn't touch her, and the final beat-down on Edge by Ziggler worked really well, though. The final image of Ziggler & Vickie standing tall over Edge while they made out in the same fashion that Edge & Vickie used to, is exactly the dynamic this feud should be reaching for, in my opinion. I'm a Val Venis mark, but I totally marked out for Cody Rhodes busting out the running short-arm knees off the ropes, followed by the Russian leg sweep. That tag team match was technically good, but I just wasn't into it. I care more about Del Rio than I do the other guys, and although some of Truth's promos occasionally have one really resonating line -- the rest is garbage. Del Rio actually speaks English better than him. I want to see Truth turn heel sometime soon. As a face I just don't find myself caring at this point in time. I find myself really liking Drew McIntyre, and I hope that his relationship with Kelly Kelly leads him into battle against Barrett's new group. The Nexus took out Vince McMahon, who was championing McIntyre to the people -- plus Kelly has her friendship with Big Show (which has seemingly been forgotten, but still). Trent Barreta getting the big victory over McIntyre was great, but I hope there is follow-up. I'm almost hoping for a Jamie Noble/Chuck Palumbo storyline flip, where Trent Barreta manages to win over Kelly, really getting under Drew's skin more. Trent will still be a babyface, but the antagonist in the story. Or for Trent to beat Drew again next week, and for Drew to offer his hand after the match, instead of beating down Trent. Beth Phoenix and Michelle McCool actually had a really good Divas match, and I hope that the ladies continue to get time and focus. If the Divas Division gets good, that's one less thing TNA has going for them. Then they're down to, like, one. Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger again had a great match, but I hope we see them move on after this. They've taken their rivalry as far as they can, and I think it's starting to hurt rather than help. Have Tyler Reks move into a feud with Kofi, attacking him after a random match, and saying that he wants the Intercontinental Title. Simple, easy, and I think Kofi and Reks would make a good combination. |

Love the direction they seem to be heading in with Barrett and company. Adding to loyalists in Slater and Gabriel makes sense, and Zeke seems to have finally found a role where he can truly exceed. With Wade doing all the talking, Zeke is going to shine.
Noid, I agree with you about the Ziggler/Edge promo a bit. There were some spots in there where Ziggler tried to turn on the intensity. I'll give him a pass just because he's come so far in such a short amount of time. Not to mention, Vickie is there to be the heat machine/mouthpiece. The Zig Zag onto the steel steps was a nice touch. Also, did anyone else think the crowd was a little dead for the most part? This was pretty good show from top to bottom and the crowd seemed fairly "meh" about it. |

It's a weird time for SmackDown!. They seem to be setting up a lot of stuff, which will all hopefully pay-off well. This week's SmackDown! felt more like a "tune in next week" episode, even though we don't have much confirmed.
Ziggler knows how to promo, don't get me wrong -- his backstage one where he talked about how the fans get behind Kofi because he's a challenger for life was brilliant. I'm sure his stuff is scripted, but I hope he finds way to really hit the right notes more often than not. He does most of his speaking in the ring, and he and Edge have fantastic chemistry, so I hope their program goes over well. But it almost seems like he and Vickie are comedic characters. The beat-down helped wash that away, but I hope both creative and Ziggler step up. |

Goldberg jackhammering the Big Show is so overrated as a show of strength. If you've ever given someone a proper suplex, you know why.

Just because it's not physically insane doesn't mean doesn't give a great visual. That's the whole point of wrestling, the visual.

On Ziggler's promos, I do agree he has the ability. I think, as of late, Vicky is being given more time with the mic to really bring the heat on the feud. But at some point, Dolph is going to have to take the mic and try to either create or play off of the heat Vickie generates. I love that they're going the ex-wife route with this angle. And no LJ, you're not the only one who isn't fond about Barrett's new theme. I can't really say I don't like it, since I haven't heard the full track and WWE isn't past changing themes from one moment to the next. Also, I found it a pretty dumb for Kelly Kelly to be telling McIntyre that she doesn't want to be with a guy who beats people for fun. Um...I'm pretty sure that's what wrestlers are kayfabe paid for. It's nitpicking, but it's a pretty dumb line. |

Wade Barrett using that theme made sense for one night. He wasn't Nexus, and he was on his own. But now that they are a group together, they could just keep "We Are On," or even use Ezekiel Jackson's "Domination" theme.
