yeah Swollen Members started off as a joke when they came up with the name at Denny's. It was never meant to be serious. Their style was wayyyy different back then. They were skaters at first then slowly evolved into the gangster shit (because Madchild is like the son of a Hell's Angel dude)

They did their latest album to prove that they could do what's current with hip hop today (autotune ring tone rap) They don't even like that style, they just wanted to put out a gangsta record for the hell of it. Their style is more abstract expressionism, I believe they had The Dust Brothers produce an album, not sure what happened to it
