What is this shit

I dunno what the hell

Earlier today I was in my Control Panel 'cause I was looking at something for my digital camera, and there was this "Immersion" thing there. I double-clicked the icon and it opened a little window. There were a few options to check off, but whatever, it was just stupid stuff like "Show splash screen" or something. Anyways, it said something about "TouchSense" or something.

I looked in the Add/Remove Programs and there was nothing about it. I searched my PC for any files named "immersion" but found no results. I then searched the registry for "immersion", and one result came up and had something about "I-Force", so I searched my PC for that. There's a file called "IFORCE2.dll" in my C:\Windows\System folder. That's why I'm kinda asking here. I know a lot of spyware adds dll files to your Windows and System folders, but I'm always a bit cautious before deleting a .dll file from there, so I figured I'd ask to see if anyone knew what the dilio was Is it just spyware, or some program that I accidentally downloaded (unlikely ) ? Or is it actually a Windows file, and I should keep it And if so, what is this stupid Immersion thing? I noticed that for a .psd file, the Photoshop icon was replaced by the same one that the Immersion thing used, so that's also weird.

Is it a laptop? If so maybe Immersion is the technology for the touch pad mouse

Nah it's just my desktop PC.

The only hardware I've even installed recently was the USB drivers for my digital camera. Would that have anything to do with it?

Hi,
I just happened to stumble into this tpww.net folder and I happen to know what that file is. In this case it is nothing malevolent. Immersion is the technology that brings you the force feedback joystick, gamepads and now mouses. If the reference is to touchsense it refers to mouse feedback technology. It makes the mouse vibrate and rumble in response to action and terrain and is supposed to enhance the experience of playing the game. Also some companies have included immersion feedback technology into websites so you get a sensation when you scroll a page, rollover or click a button.

The .dll is Iforce2 which is required to make these interfaces rumble.

How you got it I can only speculate. Its possible it installs as part of a Windows or Internet Explorer Service pack. It also could be you visited an immersion supported website and accepted something there somehow. Or its possible you installed a game that supports the technology. There is no harm done keeping it or deleting it unless of course you do own a force feedback or touchsense product.

Hope that makes you feel more comfortable.
