4 years is one year too many, but I'd still do it.
The Bourn drama is doing my head in though. Boras claims he has better offers than the one he has from the Mets...which he probably doesn't. He ALWAYS generates a fake market for his clients and I do hope Sandy is smart enough to not fall for his bullshit. But then once they agree to a deal in principle, only then will MLB rule on whether or not the 11th pick in the draft should be protected. If they choose not to protect it, the Mets will retract their offer and this whole thing will have been a massive waste of time. It's a tough call. You know that the intent was to help the teams with the 10 worst records retain their picks - they didn't anticipate the Pirates not being able to sign Mark Appel and getting an extra top 10 pick next year. Why should the Mets be punished because the Pirates fucked up? But then again...does MLB want to set a precedent? The whole qualifying offer system has really fucked over any of the fringe guys like Bourn. |
