He claims he was only dead for 8 seconds, and that Fury faked his death to spur on the Avengers, while Coulson spent a while chilling in Tahiti in hiding.

Then we get a "He really believes that Tahiti story, huh?" from some other characters so there's something more to it that's being covered up. So that'll be one of the shows ongoing arcs.
