I believe they reached a settlement. But it's painfully obvious at this point that they have no money. Since Alderson came on board they've raised the fan bases' expectations that this was the offseason where they'd start to spend money, but now they're backing off of it.

Alderson carefully dances around every answer, simply saying "we'll spend more on free agents than we did last year" when they only spent $5 million on free agents last year. He also belittled the fan base this week, saying "it's a shame that a part of the fanbases' team loyalty is tied in to how much money we spend". Fuck off with that shit.

With the Byrd contract there are already whispers that it will set a baseline for corner outfielder that the Mets will not be able to afford, and I'm hearing they still don't want to sign anybody who will make them lose a draft pick even though their 1st round pick is protected.
