You'd think it would have spread a lot faster... Got the feeling that the walkers were "laying low" "waiting to strike".... when they should just be instantly drawn to the sounds and noises of a bustling city and probably infect multiple people before being taken down.... who would then infect more... etc...

About that, since you don't need to get bitten to turn, everyone that dies becomes a zombie, I imagine lots of people die every minute in a city as big as Los Angeles so it should definitely spread faster. Everyone that dies should infect at least a few people before getting it's brain destroyed, while people still have no idea what's going on.
