Both challenged creative and are no longer with WWE. I have given like 10 examples of proof that wrestlers do not get to create their own characters. Hell, promos are even scripted.

Austin challenged creative on a daily basis and became the biggest money draw in WWF history.

Scripted promos are the norm now true. Giving creative too much control is bad. Any character they give Apollo will not feel real or make it. He has to find something about himself and display that to the world. The scripted promos will still be there but he might be able to read them in a better voice if he believes the character. I just don't think he has the balls to bring something to the table. He's a solid worker but that's all. They signed him because he had a buzz about him for being a great worker and very athletic spots for a man his size.
