This clearly indicates that the bookers weren't thinking of the long term consequences of such an angle.

You mention payoff. What payoff does a pregnancy angle bring to the parties involved? The last 'pregnancy' angle resulted in the birth of a hand, so I am HIGHLY skeptical as to the creativety of WWE bookers to spin this in a positive direction.
