That was the right way to do it. Reigns needed to get his win against Lesnar, so you couldn't put Braun in the match, so just put him out at ringside to get beaten up and stuff.

But why did he need to destroy Owens? It makes sense if they want to have him cash in and truly put him over.

That's not what happened though, he did nothing but get knocked down by Roman then get destroyed by Brock.

Let K.O. give Braun a fight. Braun could still beat Owens but be beat up a bit himself. Then it at least makes sense that he isn't able to cash in after getting attacked, instead of looking like a turd compared to Brock again.
