Don't doubt that Mysterio would make a great champ, but personally I want to see a face chasing the US Title next.

I think Cena should go into Mania as US champ and have both the US and WWE titles on the line.
Cena wins the WWE title, then forfeits the US title. If Cena drops the title before Mania, it will.......well it'll actually be par for the course. The idea of Cena giving up the title before Mania is okay, but really you can tell the same story with Cena going in as champ. To me there is more value in advertising a match as title vs title then there is in having a US title match that will be so far down the card nobody will remember it anyway. Vacating the US title after Mania is also better becase it gives them a storyline that can build into the 1st SD PPV post-Mania. In terms of who should be champ, I'd like to see them give it Rey, but there are lots of guys on SD who could use it. Eddie could, just to give him something, young guys like OJ, Haas, and Dupree could all use it. And, just to throw out an idea, what if JBL were to drop the WWE title at Mania, and then win the US title at Judgment Day? I think we all agree JBL is entertaining, and this would be agreat way to maintain his gimmick somewhat anyway. Only problem with that is that SD is short on top heels, so JBL will likely need to stay in the WWE title mix, even after he drops the WWE title. Of course that could change, depending on which guys switch from RAW. |

Carlito is still injured, I think. BTW, I love Theodore R. Long, and he's entertaining as anyone, but has anyone else noticed he's too much like an anti-heel. He forced Carlito to defend the US Title with a broken arm. If he had forced John Cena to do that, he would instantly be a heel GM. I just can't see the fairness in Teddy Long's character.
Anyway, I'd like to see Cena hold the US Title until Judgment Day, at the least. You can have him forfeit the belt, but I think him dropping it to a heel while he is the WWE Champion would give them a lot of crediblity. Why not have Cena lose the title at The Great American Bash? Carlito winning the belt there would be simply awesome, IMO. Have Cena do double duty with both belts until then. I do have a soft spot in my heart for Orlando Jordan winning the belt, though, and then having JBL demand Orlando hands it over when he can't beat Cena for the WWE Championship. |
