How does the Carter for Jagr trade not make sense?

Caps are set to dump about 8 mil in salary, and the Rangers get Jagr.

It make perfect sense.

It makes sense, but the Caps could get atleast a bit more than just Carter for Jagr straight up (i.e. a draft pick, etc.).

If the Rangers make the playoffs (and I'm assuming if they do, they'll be one of the bottom teams), they could be an EXTREME dark horse team.

I wonder if they'll make a serious pitch for Curtis Joesph (or Dominik Hasek?) somewhere down the road.

Yeah that's why it makes so little sense.

See, if the Caps dumped Jagr and got his salary off their hands, I'd agree that it was a smart move.

But the thing is, they're still paying him $20 million, so it's just retarded all over

Jagr will choke with the Rangers.
Carter will probably do pretty good with the Caps.

I don't really think Jagr was worth much more than they got. He hasnt really been a superstar since leaving the Pens.

Well he's re-united with Kovalev, so who knows... then again, it's the Rangers, the two probably won't even see any ice time together at all.

The Caps are paying for half the salary, too? WTF, I thought the point of the trade was to dump the salary at first. They should have got a draft pick or something too, IMO.

well paying 20 million to get rid of him and get carter might not be that bad... If there's a work stoppage why be responsible to owe a guy 22 million and he might not be playing anything. Plus the owner of the caps has money anyways so meh.

Yeah a couple days ago there were even rumors about a three-way deal between Washington/NYR/Ottawa, that would send Jagr to NY and Bondra to Ottawa. Maybe there's still more to come of this, who knows

One report is Bondra to Ottawa for Shane Hnidy. If that's the case that would be awesome for the Sens but I doubt Bondra will go that cheap though I never thought Jarg would go this cheap either.

I'm just saying, Pushor is shit

But yeah, from the Ranger's POV that was an excellent trade. Carter's done nothing for them, and getting Jagr can't hurt. And think about it, they have unlimited money, and STILL got Washington to eat up half of Jagr's salary.

Why would Jagr have gone to Detroit for Joseph? Isn't Olaf Kolzig one of the better NHL goalies? If he were ever to go to Detroit I would assume it would be from the Rangers, who could use Joseph more.

Yeah, goaltending is the least of Washington's worries right now. Them trading for a goalie would make less sense than them trading Jagr away for Anson Carter.
