They also got Pedro around Thanksgiving. Simmons has an article on ESPN about the trade and notes all that stuff
Of course Damon is going to do whats best for his wallet, because the core of the team is gone. If they were keeping Millar and Mueller then chances are he wouldn't be going after the most unrealistic contract this side of Bryant Reeves |

I love this trade for the Mets.
We fill two of our needs (power bat and 1st baseman) while still keeping Milledge. Also, Billy Wagner has said that he wants to be on a team that can make it to the postseason, and with the acquistion of Delgado, the Mets may have proved to him that they are willing to spend to get the offense they need. The Mets probably could have won 12-13 more games last season if Delgado was on the team. They just added a TON of run support. I will admit, it's hard to say goodbye to Jacobs and Petit. However, there's a chance they may never pan out as planned. Jacobs is the one that worries me the most, as his swing reminded me of Chipper Jones. Hopefully Jacobs won't become the Chipper Jones of the Marlins and kill the Mets every time. My only other concern is his reaction to the city. Listening to the radio, several fans have already stated that they will boo the crap out of Delgado from the get-go and not even give him a chance. If the pressure were to get to Delgado and he were to produde a Beltran-2005 type season, the fans would kill him and he'd probably demand a trade. Overall, I like this deal. 2006 is gonna be interesting |

The "win now" attitude is why the Mets have sucked the last 4 years. Trading quality prospects for a 34 year old slugger past his prime is not a good move.
Reports are also saying that the Mets may be getting Soriano for prospects. The Delgado deal I don't like but if they get Soriano they are retarded |

No way do I want Soriano. I'd rather have the $7 million paperweight Kaz Matsui playing 2B next year.
I heard the Rangers want Milledge for Soriano ![]() |

I hope something happens to Carlos Delgado that will make him ineligble for the entire season and I hope that Mike Jacobs hits 40+ home runs in 5 consecutive seasons and I hope that Yusmeiro Petit ends up to be a 300 game winner.

Thome is the new DH. Thomas' career with the Sox is over. Konerko is still the top priority.
This makes zero fucking sense. Is Pods the new CF? Do they bring Anderson up for good for LF? This is not the same Jim Thome that killed us while he was with Cleveland. See ya Aaron. I hope you win a gold glove every year for the rest of your career. So much for the "3 Stooges". |

Cubs about to acquire Juan Pierre. lol 1998 Marlins all over again. Willis and Cabrera will probably be the only players on the 2006 team that were on the 2005 team.

That's the only time you ever see Henry really get pissed (or close to it). He points out Huizinga owned the team when the fire sale happened. Which is true, but I thought I remembered he had to dismantle the team before Henry would take it... I could be off there... |

Yeah, giving up Roward for Thome, who last time I heard isn't confirmed healthy and isn't used to DHing, is a bad move IMO. It kind of gives them wiggle room if Konerko goes, but especially if he stays, I think it was an unneccessary move.

Seems more likely that in a few years the Marlins won't be playing in Miami. Stadium proposal was defeated, they don't like Dolphins stadium, etc. IN fact I think MLB has even given the the go ahead to look around at other cities.
Awesome, a two time World Series Champion and still not a solid franchise. I hope they do move. |

So, the Red Sox are taking the full 72hrs to go over Beckett's medicle files before the trade's offical. Should be sometime today.

Yeah, I could see the Marlins being in Portland in a few years. Other possibilities I've heard are Indianapolis and Las Vegas, although Vegas seems pretty unlikely.

In a way, besides Beckett, it might not be such a bad idea to be selling these guys off. I mean most of last season they weren't even in contention, and guys like Lowell, Laduca, Delgado, and Pierre aren't getting any better. Instead of flirting with the wildcard again, they are already getting some pretty decent prospects it looks like. Dunno.

If they're going to do a firesale, they're at least doing it right and getting quality prsopects. The Beckett trade was retarded but Jacobs and Petit both have great upside. We'll see who they get for Pierre. I heard they were offered overrated Milledge but took Petit instead which was a great move.

I'm a fan of Beckett's (also have a nice Stadium Giveaway Bobblehead of his) but I think he's very risky and injury prone. You always have guys that play like heroes during playoffs and he was on fire in 2004. But during the season, he just one of those guys that can go eathier way and you just don't know.

I'm worried about Beckett being able to play in Boston. I know he is sort of a hick that backs the NRA. He is big into hunting and all that so I dunno how much he is going to like the Boston media.

Maybe it will be completely fine, I am just basing it off the fact that I know he supports the NRA which means he is a hick. I'm figuring a guy like that really won't enjoy the pressure of Red Sox baseball/Boston media.
