Arenas to police: 'You can't arrest me' Story Tools: Print Email Blog This Associated Press Posted: 7 hours ago MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas and forward Awvee Storey have been arrested on charges of disobeying police. Storey was blocking traffic in the middle of a busy street when an officer told him to get back to the sidewalk Saturday night, according to police reports. Storey didn't get out of the street, and the officer arrested him and charged him with failure to obey a command. While police were arresting Storey, Arenas got out of a vehicle and walked toward the arresting officers. According to reports, an officer told Arenas to get back in his vehicle, but he refused, saying he wanted to stand next to his teammate. The officer took Arenas into custody and charged him with resisting without violence. As Arenas was being arrested, according to reports, he said, "You can't arrest me. I'm a basketball player. I play for the Washington Wizards, and I'm not going to leave my teammate." Both players were then taken to jail for processing. The Wizards released a statement saying, "We are aware of the situation and, until we have more information, we will have no comment." The two were arrested as part of a crackdown on disorderly behavior among those who flocked to Miami Beach for Memorial Day weekend. A total of 557 people were arrested between Thursday morning and Saturday night on Miami Beach. Most arrests were for disorderly conduct and intoxication. During the same three-day period last year, there were 333 arrests. "We're definitely over from last year," Miami Beach police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said. "We're working a lot more plainclothes officers, so you're obviously going to make more arrests." |

I think it is pretty funny how Detriot players are complaining now that they are losing. When they were winning all those games in the regular season they were loving the freedom on offense, I am pretty sure Billups said something like he was not allowed to score before, under Brown, it was like forbidden. Now you got a bunch of players complaining to the media, 'Sheed not going to the huddle during the time out. All around just looks awful, shows on the court too. Hopefully the Heat go all the way, I'd like to see Walker get a ring. Even though he doesn't play for the Celts anymore, I am still a fan of his.

The Pistons are really disappointing me now. I've been a fan since I was eight years old (I'm 23 now). I stuck with the team through the Dark Ages of the mid-1990s (Oliver Miller, anyone?). And now they've put together one of the best teams in league history top-to-bottom, but they're playing like absolute garbage.
They're letting the officials get into their heads. They should know by now that any time you breathe on DWade as he's driving, you'll get whistled for a foul. Every other team in the league has learned it, why haven't the Pistons? What disappoints me the most is that this is a team that, throughout the regular season (and the last three seasons, really), prided itself on being a unit. And now all of a sudden, there's conflicts with the coach, they're not sharing the ball, and it's costing them victories against a team that they should be beating fairly handily. Honestly, outside of the mismatch that Shaq has against anyone (and the aforementioned Dwayne "Floorburns" Wade), who does Miami have that's better than Detroit? No one! Rasheed Wallace should be torching Udonis Haslem every night. Antoine Walker shouldn't even be a factor, because Tayshaun Prince is usually one of the best on-the-ball defensive small forwards in the league. And neither Payton nor Williams can match up against Chauncey. I know they play their best with their backs against the wall, but they're starting to come off as arrogant when they can dismiss yet another loss by saying "If it ain't rough, it ain't right." Yeah, it may be right for you, but for those of us who are hanging on your every pick-and-roll, every blocked shot, it's incredibly frustrating. I'm begging for a three-game winning streak, but I know better. I just hope that whoever comes out of the West wins it all. I've said numerous times before that I hate the way Shaq plays the game (if I weighed 350 pounds and was allowed to just lean on my defender until I either got a dunk or a foul, I'd be the "most dominant player in league history," too!), and I hate to see him rewarded with another title. He seems like a good enough guy off the court, I just loathe his playing style. [/RANT] |

Well individualy each player on Detriot is probably better then the player he is matched up againest on Miami, but unlike Detriot teams in the past, Detriot is playing like a bunch of individuals. While Miami is playing like a team

I wouldn't say that.
Chauncey Billups > Jason Williams Rip Hamilton < Dwayne Wade Tayshaun Prince = Antoine Walker Rasheed Wallace > Udonis Haslem Ben Wallace < Shaq As individuals, I don't think Detroit ever really had superstars, it was just that they could play together. |

Yeah thats true now that I think about. Shaq and Wade are better then who they are going up againest and Chauncy and Sheed are better againest who they are going up againest. Where as Walker and Prince do seem to be pretty equal. Miami is still playing like a team though (Even with ex "Superstars" Walker and Payton) where as Detriot is not, and that is the difference really.

I remember before the season when Detroit was going to win because they played as a team and Miami wouldn't because they were too selfish.

I will admit that I said the exact same thing as Loopydate. I thought adding Posey might be good, but I hated adding Williams and Walker. In reality, Miami just has a lot of good players right now and Wade is a bona fide superstar. As long as Shaq can be effective the rest of the Heat will be amazing.
To go off on a tangent of a tangent...Flip Saunders is getting torn up in the media right now, but the Minnesota media has been ripping his firing since it happened. In reality, the NBA is such a fucked up league that coaches only have so long to work. Now they are saying Dwayne Casey might be out after one year though, and I think that is way too fast. I really like Casey and hope the Wolves let him go through another year. |

Since when did *insert any Detroit starter here* become Tim Duncan? And good job at throwing your coach under the bus. Way to know how to win but when you lose be a little bitch about it. Terrible.
Quote:
If the refs called it "correctly", Ben Wallace/every defender would be fouled out every game. Ever notice he gives him an elbow every time down the court? You can't complain about Shaq "leaning in" (which is called backing down your defender, everyone does), when EVERY DEFENDER that goes against Shaq gives him much more than they take. I thought Shaq was down to low 3's now? He's looking pretty "ripped" (for Shaq anyway). |

Yeah, PHX is done. Finally. Great run though, considering they didn't have Amare or Kurt Thomas. Also, I HATE Tim Thomas. What a faggot.

Wade vs Nowitski would be the modern day Jordan vs Bird. I'm hoping for that, but quietly i'm hoping for 2 game 7's. Like the last round game 7's.
Wades sick tonight, but i think he's gunna step up big time cause i dont by the whole " Flu symptoms ". I think thats just glorifying a cold. |

Blame it on Flip. Seems like everyone else likes that idea. Ya know, since he was missing all those wide open shots and all.

Add that to the fact that Shaq took 48 free throws during the series means that those two players took 100 FTs. As a team, the Pistons only took 154. But, you're right, to say that Wade gets a lot of calls is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks for setting me straight. |

I really can't believe how bad it got for the Pistons. It's a damn shame to have the best record out of everyone in the NBA this year to lost it all in not even a game 7 against the Heat. As much as I hate to say it, they definitely choked. Ever since game 3 against Cleveland, the Pistons haven't been the same. Who knows what the hell happened? Just unfortunately it all culminated in ending their season. Hopefully they can rebound next year.

And your argument against Shaq is pretty "ROFL" Since you are trying to turn this into a numbers game, here: Free throws attempted: Detroit - 154 Miami - 153 Not really a big difference now that you look at it. The funny thing is the number is only close because of game 4 when Miami shot 47 to Detroit's 22. And, to make it even worse... Free throws made: Detroit - 114 Miami - 97 I don't really know if you're even arguing that Miami got all the calls or not since you left it pretty vague. Shaq was 21/48 for the series. Dwade was 44/52. So, Shaq averaged 8 free throws a game and Wade averaged a little over 8. Not outrageous numbers at all lol. You're welcome, by the way. ![]() Last edited by The Outlaw; 06-04-2006 at 01:05 PM. |

Well ya, they got the ball more and took more shots than anyone on their team. It would make sense that they get to the line more

Yes, but they didn't just take more than anyone on their team. They took more than anyone on either team, which was my point. Of course they're going to take more than Walker and Payton and Williams and Posey, et al. But they also took more shots than any Piston.
Richard Hamilton is usually a guy who gets to the line a lot, and he only took forty-one. Seven free throws behind Shaq, and eleven behind Wade! No other Piston took more than 28! So I don't think it's horribly unfair to say that Wade and Shaq get a lot of calls, which has been my point all along. |

The refs weren't part of a big conspiracy to give the Heat more free throws, come on, you're starting to stretch this argument.

I'm not saying that's the reason the Pistons lost or anything, but I don't think it's any big secret that superstar players get preferential treatment from the referees. Seriously, when was the last time you saw LeBron or DWade called for traveling when they pick up their dribble at the top of the circle and dunk it?
But my point has been missed so spectacularly, I think I'm going to just stop trying. Last edited by loopydate; 06-07-2006 at 07:33 PM. |
