It IS proper 3D and not a depth illusion.

OK, just had it from 2 sources that the grapahics quality on the device they are using as we speak, has 360 quality GFX. These may be pre-rendered, but Nintendo doesn't usually over-state power. God I hope it holds up.

I doubt it as well, but even in 2D and stretched to a screen much bigger than the 3DS's screens, it looked awesome.

Hell, on a handheld, I'm more than content with a PSP level of power.

Handhelds get a pass due to their very concept, so visuals aren't that important. But the 3DS being as strong as a GCN at least? Crazy. Can't believe I'm witnessing this in my lifetime. I used to think Gameboy Color was the shit.

Quick review courtesy of Kotaku of what is known about the 3DS:
• The Nintendo 3DS is black and blue
• As promised, this is a glasses-free 3D device
• Two cameras on the outside of the device for 3D picture taking
• 3D depth slider on the side of the device

This is going to be quick and hyperbole-filled.

After the Nintendo press conference, Jim Sterling and I made our way to a section at the back of the theater where some lovely ladies were letting us demo the Nintendo 3DS.

The actual games are on the show floor, but they showed us a demo of sorts that shows off the new handheld device's technology. Moving images from famous Nintendo franchises faded in and out, from Mario to Pikmin, Metroid to Zelda.

In a word, the technology was amazing. Actually, amazing doesn't even begin to describe what Jim and I just saw. Even Jim Sterling looked at me and couldn't believe what he was seeing. The hype is correct: 3D. No glasses. The images do not just fall back into the screen as some people thought. They come out at you. IN 3D! WITH NO GLASSES! It is absolutely surreal.

And attention should also be given to the quality of the graphics. They were stunning. I would say Wii-level, at the very least. The images were polished, colorful, and, most importantly, bright. They were popping (literally!) off of the screen.

The show floor opens in a few minutes. I can't wait to try out some of the games on the Nintendo 3DS. You all are not ready. It is truly incredible.
