He wasn't. For the last few weeks of the run he was even coming to the ring in street clothes and doing "shoot" promos as "himself". I remember one instance where he was dressed in grey sweats in the ring.

Yeah but then he'd need to change his ring name to U.N.D.E.R.T.A.K.E.R.

It would work in Japan (KENTA, anyone?), but I dunno about over here.
