I just hated Ronaldo anyway. Cos he does those stepovers and gallops like a horse and is just a little smarmy bastard. And he plays for Man U on top of that. Now I can just add this but seriously I hated him before.

Nah we weren't robbed, and everyone knows what a little diving twat Joe Cole can be. But really, there is NO comparison to be made as far as diving goes and England/Portugal, it wouldn't surprise me if they actually practice it over there.

I didn't see the wink, but to be honest i was so pissed off at the whole situation that i coulda easily missed it had it been shown.

I agree with what guys have said about our pundits though. The problem is diving is far more rampant amongst the Southern European teams, there's no doubting that, and saying it isn't painting England or anyone else as saintly, everyone dives at some point and argues for decisions they know they won't and shouldn't get. BUT our pundits and commentators are often overly critical of the opposition without the faintest mention of any English wrong doing.

just to weigh in on a dead horse beating, I was watching the game on the ESPN/ABC broadcast that wink was there. BBC had nothing to do with it.

I'd say I'm on the fence as to wether Rooney stamped deliberately or just landed accidently on that guys nuts. He certainly has the reputation to be a bastard but in this case, hard to say.

Diving is a big problem in the sport as a whole, as evidenced by Beckenbauer calling for a summit on the issue. Watching the France/Portugal game C. Ronaldo was horrific as the rest of the portugal side were. just embarrasing really.

As far as the wink replay being a bit of editting by the BBC. I am fairly sure that the BBC and ITV can only show what the host broadcaster shows in Germany with regards to camera angles and replays

I'd like to see Germany destroy Portugal, they've played better more consistently throughout the tournament and just deserve it more, and they haven't dived at every opportunity and made a farce of the game (just to mention that again)

Does anybody think the MLS has any chance of landing the likes of Zidane, Nedved or Ronaldo? That's the talk, and it would be a boost to US soccer I'd think, but I don't know if the MLS could do it and there has really been no indication that they are.

Ronaldo mentioned it at one point but I dunno. The last couple years the trend has been for ageing, nearly-retired footballers to go to Qatar for one or two last seasons and a massive payday.

Fatty. His is the only name that I have heard that sounded somewhat legit, the Zidane, Nedved and Figo type names were more just put out there as speculation. I would think that a top level team in Europe could still use Ronaldo for a few more years though, so I dunno.

And yeah, Youri Djorkaef (something like that) was a French striker in 1998 with Henry. It was funny because at one of the French matches in the World Cup they found him in the stands and were all upset because he had taken "personal time" away from the MLS to be there.

MLS is so fucking boring. I would watch is Seattle got a team though. I hear Toronto is getting a team next year?

I thought there was a wage cap set by the MLS officials which isn't very high to stop the league failing like it did in the past. I think, for that reason, the US will never get the top stars at their best.

I don't think the MLS is in a position to go after talent at its best right now, but to get some world renowned names such as Zidane playing here would be big not only for the league but also for the development of players. I think that is the outlook at least.

Also, I really don't find MLS that bad, but there is just something missing. When there is a game at Houston, Utah or Los Angeles, there is a good atmosphere in the background and the game is entertaining. It's the empty Giants stadium that sucks. I don't know though, they need to get a better way to market the players or something.

The Miz, I have always wondered this...The Minnesota Thunder play in a a league (just changed a bunch so forget the name) but the Seattle Sounders are in it. Now really, is that name going off of the 1990's grunge thing or is there another "sound" that the name comes from?
