I hate to bust your balls over this, but EVERY 3 Doors Down song uses the same chord progression in every song. They either just slow it down (Here Without You) or speed it up (Kryptonite) and the guy can't do anything over monotone vocals. They are probably the worst "band" I've ever heard in my life.

Wrong.

3DD uses multiple progressions. Though there are a couple of songs that use similar progressions in different keys, the same could be said for most bands. However, they do a good job of mixing it up.

Also, Monotone, what are you smoking?

Sorry Gertie, but anything that might be construed as supporting you is wrong. Unless you want to go for the "OMG THEY ALL START WITH GUITARS!" shit, in which case you're really grasping for straws.

Except the difference is I actually have an ear for repetition vs nonrepetition. You're talking from the perspective of fan/non fan. I'm talking from the perspective of a critical ear. Sorry if that ruins your day.

Seriously though, I have an ear for progressions, structure, and tonality. You're trying to act like I'm just a hter, instead of someone with a critical ear. And you lose. Sorry.

My thoughts exactly. How is Candy Shop #1??? Man, my roomate plays that song, and it almost drives me mad. If I wasn't such a tolerant person, I'd be unleashing a twin-axe attack on him, but his stereo's sub is a little more powerful than my 4 computer speakers and my sub.

Well, everyone has their personal preference in music. Personally, I find 50 cent's voice really monotonous and dull.

plus, I think this can help explain my position. Us fans of dance music ( not the posers who just go to shows for the drugs argh) are REALLY into this style of music and are very knowledgable about it. We attend shows regularly and know what we are talking about. To a person on the outside, of course it sounds the same. And i'm not saying you are a hater, I'm just upset that you assume I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to dance music, cause I live and breathe this genre. I'm not saying I'm a music excpert in teh least sense, but making dance music is not just as easy as twisting a few knobs and shit. And I'm not dismissing your musical background as it is pretty extensive. Check out armin van buuren's website and see his set-up. Many of the dj's have extensive musical backgrounds (the one's that actually make the music, not some shlub like myself)

I did DJ work for over 5 years. Ontop of that, it wasn't on the side, it was a primary source of income.

And don't try and pussy out with "you don't know what trance is" like you're some sort of underground elite movement.

Having an extensive music background doesn't validate your work. I've composed techno tracks for clubs in the area (because it was a paycheck, albeit a small one), but that doesn't mean I applied a huge amount of expertise. I simply popped some stuff into fruityloops, didn't take me much effort to compose, program or mix. And the beatiful thing is it took no performing talent (which is good, because my piano/keyboard skills are kind of SHIT)

composing random techno tracks is nothing Kane. I can do that stuff on my computer in about 5-10 minutes. Creating beatuiful Progressive House songs that tell a story is another thing.

Well I likes my dance when I'm out I'm nowhere near as much knowledge as Gertner on the subject since I only started getting into since I was 18 and out clubbing. Its shite to say that it all sounds the same, it sounds the same as any other music sounds the same just the genre songs themselves aren't the same at all.

And yes I'd imagine most people I know would know Sandstorm it was a huge hit

And the difference is I'm pointing out how little effort I put into it.

I admit it. I'd like to be considered a serious artist. But I have no problem using my talents for money. In fact, I'm trying to get a comp role from one of the local producers. It's art film stuff, won't pay much, but if I can nail that, it'd rock.

But the point in knocking it off quickly is that being talented does not validate the music you do. Bach and many of the other great composers wrote simplistic stuff. That doesn't mean that it was the pinnacle of their acheivements, or that all the music they wrote took amazing talent.

I know it's not an underground elite movement. Note I said that you were portraying it like knowing what trance is is in any way something special.

yes, but when the artists put alot of effort into it, it becomes amazing stuff. As dance music fans we are alaways looking for something a little different, so the dj's continously have to create new sounds. Artists like Ferry Corsten have maintained their opularity because they are creative. A few years ago a Trance dj wouldn't have cracked the top 20 in the rankings, now at the top that's all there is. Like with all music, it's only as simple or as complex as you make it.
