I found this at ESPN.com

PHILADELPHIA -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson called the Philadelphia Eagles' punishment of Terrell Owens "much too severe."

Jackson said in a statement released Friday that Owens could have been more professional when he publicly complained about his contract, his team and the Eagles' organization.

But Jackson said Owens' suspension without pay for four games and deactivation for the rest of the season is "much too severe for the charge" and hurts the athlete's NFL career at its height.

The civil rights activist said the level of punishment could have been warranted if Owens had been caught shaving points, selling drugs, carrying a gun or fighting fans without sufficient restraint.

"This does not warrant a one-year ban from the game," Jackson said, adding that the Eagles should release Owens to the open market or free agency if they no longer want to associate with him.

Ralph Nader, a consumer activist and former presidential candidate, has already called for the suspension to be rescinded.

Owens was suspended last week after he said in an interview that the Eagles showed "a lack of class" for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch, and that the team would be better off with Green Bay's Brett Favre as quarterback. He has since apologized.

Doesn't really mention Nader's part in it, which is what I was interested in.

Somehow I think we're talking about different things.

A press box at most stadiums is "seperate" hence being the "press box", what would it be combined with and how would the Press having their own area create "more work".

Like, a year or two ago there was a guy who made his milestone at an away game; it was not announced, but there was a standing ovation. I think something similar went on with Cris Carter's 100th... I mean, there are so many milestones... ever see those milestone stats? "This is the 13th home game against AFC East teams in a row that this team has won by a margin of 3-5 points." There are always about 20 milestones, with a handful of ones that a player could consider to be "major."

But then, there is no "I" in team, but there is a "Terrell."

Yeah, Jackson of course is making thie a race issue because Reid is White, but he's not Jessie wont acknowledge that it was black players that told the white coach they couldn't deal with the black player anymore.

Nader is arguing a consumer rights issue, that the fans who payed for tickets expected to see him, fans who spend money on the eagles did it to support a team with him.

That doesn't work for me, because what about injuries or trades?

The NFLPA is arguing they have to put him back on the team or cut him. The Eagles wont cut him this year, they don't want a contender picking him up (even though the Eagles are pretty much out of it.) I don't see the NFLPA winning this, because the same happened to Keyshaun Johnson and in both cases the player is being paid to stay away. What would the NFLPA prefer, they let him suit up and sit on the bench by himself all game?

Nader has a point. It's easy for a fatass never-suited-up coach to bench an elite athlete, as Jackson said, in the prime of his career. But that's a year removed from the record books, a year doing the thing you love taken away from you. He's being a bitch, ok. CUT HIM. It's been done before.

The Keyshawn thing may have been a precedent, but it was a wrong one. Why? Because there was no precedent. But think about the precedents from the past: Leather helmets, no illegal hits, players were paid like 10k a year to play... it was horrible to be a player; but the NFLPA has fixed that and they should fix this too. Maybe the trading deadline should be extended.

Why can't they place TO on waivers? Remember when Deion came out of retirement to play for the Raiders, but was still on waivers, so the Chargers signed him when they were the worst team in the league?

Let the worst team around sign him. Afraid that he'll go to a contender? You have a point, a contender the Eagles are not. And secondly, the 49ers weren't worried that he would go to a contender, either. It's part of the goddamned game.

The Eagles treat their players horribly. People go and stay there because it's a winning club. Maybe now that they just don't have what it takes to compete, players will start looking elsewhere.

As much as I hate TO, AB makes a good point. Taking away something somebody loves. They ought to just cut him, besides, who cares if he goes to a contender? He is a human being, not God.

My question is: Was this in his contract?

"We don't care what you do on the field, you're being paid 10 mil per year to keep your mouth shut and behave like a prince. Other than that, you can be Todd Pinkston, as long as you don't say mean things."

I tell you this much: If people in sports felt the same way people in the Music industry felt, then TO would be the hottest commodity. Controversy sells albums. It also tunes people in to see TO get a 70 yard catch that includes destroying a safety, finished off with him raising up, taking his shirt off and spinning it around just like a helicopta.

Marvin Harrison might be the best, soundest WR in the league... but do people want to watch him run, catch, score, or do they want to watch something interesting?

And someone might argue, "but that will just turn the NFL into the XFL."

If this is the case, how come we are taking things AWAY from what the NFL used to be? We're not BECOMING anything by staying the same. Neon Deion, the Ickey Shuffle... the 85 Bears... I dunno, they didn't get as much controversy as Terrell Owens and Nicolette Sheriden, did they?

Jackson and Nader do themselves no favours wading in on a topic such as this. They should be way above this type of story (Jackson at least) This is why they aren't taken very seriously by the majority of people.

Yeah he lit Brad Johnson up.

Eli played like shit, unexcusable. Defense played great, but I don't get the playcalling down at the end of the game on that FG drive. Just a lot of shitty mistakes, dropped passes, poor throws, getting the ball batted at the line 5-6 times. Unexcusable bullshit.

Hella disappointing loss. As much as I hate to say it, the Giants had no business winning that game.......and what a time for the D to fall apart..that missed Feely FG cost them, but he's still had a phenomenal year.

Also, who the fuck called that last play? If you're gonna do that, try a Hail Mary at least. Fucking hell.

Overall, 6-3 is still good

Bean - I see your points, however he is under contract and all the contract have "clauses" that I'm sure covers that.

He's still getting paid, the Eagles gave up something to get him, they want something to get rid of him. Why should they cut him outright? What's in it for them? They're the employer, show me a job you can go publicly and bad mouth your boss and co-workers and expect to keep your job?

They gave up some backup nobody for one good run with the arguably best WR in the game. They made the superbowl and couldn't do it, even though he played an inspired, amazing game. They mistreated him, and NOBODY DENIES that the Eagles are organization-first and shit on players. But it wasn't his fault that they lost the superbowl. "He wasn't the one throwing up in the huddle. "

Anyway, what's in it for them? Salary cap. Roster spot. What's in it for them if they keep him on the roster and don't play them? Honestly? Some sort of symbolic victory? We get it, Reid don't take no shit from nobody. Great. So cut him.

But on to the final point... how many places will fire you but make you stay there, sitting in the lobby? If you misbehave, you're fired. That's your analogy. You get fired. You don't get benched. And if you're in an important enough position, like head of FEMA(sp), or some federal/state job, where you're on administrative leave, paid while on vacation? Remember my point: Terrell Owens is somewhere around 31 years old. Most WRs don't even last that long. If it isn't unconstitutional, it should be. When you do what they're doing, you're not helping anyone. OWENS won't change. He's not a rookie. You can't teach him a lesson. It's too late for that. All you can do is worry about YOUR TEAM. And keeping him on the roster does NOTHING good for you. All you're doing is making an example of him, and destroying his livelihood. Yes, he has money, but so many other players are making more money than him, and aren't being put in Time Out. That's bullshit. It is NOT PHILADELPHIA'S PLACE TO PUNISH HIM LIKE THIS.

Sorry, didn't mean to "yell." But hopefully you see my point. I hate Philly. I hate Owens. I just can understand why this is so wrong on so many levels. He's a bad boy. Let the NFL handle it.

Man, what a sound game by the Giants... scored twice and got a couple field goals, and completely destroyed the Minnesota offense, shutting them down and allowing no TDs.

Nothing to be ashamed of.

Didn't realize the Pats pass defense gave up 360 yards tho for some reason it didn't seem as bad as usual though. No big plays I guess?

If you pin the other team back and hold them "just enough," score a lot, turn the ball over, don't run the clock out... force them into 3-and-longs, etc, the yards can mount up. Then you usually have a good 100 or so yards in the final 10 minutes as the losing team tries to mount the comeback.

I don't recall what happened in their game... against............ was it the Fins?

Anyway... yeah lots of passing yards happens a lot, especially if you have shitty field position. Vs the Lions, Brad Johnson had like 150 yards passing and 2 TDs.

LOL there is no way you compare the two situations. They were winning by what, 13 points? Minnesota was losing by what, 7 or less? Come on now.

Let the worst team around sign him. Afraid that he'll go to a contender? You have a point, a contender the Eagles are not. And secondly, the 49ers weren't worried that he would go to a contender, either. It's part of the goddamned game.
Bean, I read that the Packers have #1 waiver priority. Do you really want the Pack to have another person on the team besides Favre (since he's it, basically)?? Especially one with the talent level of a T.O. ?

I watched the game of the year in the late game. Redskins vs Bucs. Look for that game on NFL Netword game of the week. It was sick.

Brunnel threw this pass across his body on the run ( ala Mcnabb to Owens in Dallas ) to Santana Moss that was an absolute 35-40 yard dart. Perfect throw. It was amazing. Brunnell = Pro Bowl.
