I lost like $55 on this fight. I dont know what happened and Lesnar didn't seem to fight to win. Didnt blow out of the gate, didn't take Overeem off his feet, etc. I was expecting Brock to rush Overeem and get him on the mat where Brock wouldve had him, but I dunno what happened.

Must be Brock's illness.

I am pretty sure, pre-illness Brock would've handled Overeem.

^^ Hard to argue with that. It's really night and day when you compare Lesnars fights pre and post illness. He doesnt belong on any top ten lists as of right now..but before, he was defeating Couture and Mir.

True, but 09' Lesnar was a fair bit faster, stronger,.....and had more confidence....and I think on those virtues alone, it would have been enough to have taken Alistair.

During the Lesnar/Overeem match, we saw how Lesnar was the first one to mount atleast a little bit of offense. He not only cut Overeem, but he almost had a single leg take down as well (Overeem obviously, blocked it effectively). Lesnar didn't reallty commit to the takedown but I believe it would have been a different story in 09' Not only would have had committed, but he would have grabbed the leg a tad faster.....and that "tad" difference is what would have caused Overeem to go down....where Lesnar would've done the ground and pound and/or wrestling.

Even against Valasquez, Lesnar had a slight edge during the first 2:20 seconds. Cain defended exceptionally well, but I think the 09' version of Lesnar would've been more effective (although unlike Overeem, I am NOT prepared to say that the 09' version of Lesnar would have defeated Cain).

That makes sense, he looked like he'd been totally outclassed in his last 2 fights and that he couldn't deal with being struck against Carwin. The whole thing about his diverticular disease has been overblown by people on the internet. Lesnar just didn't like being hit and it's probably due to inexperience.

Despite all the money and success Lesnar helped bring to UFC, do you think they will be more hesitant giving a guy with a 2-1 record (1-1 in UFC) a title shot in the future? Obviously, Lesnar was unique because he was already a marketable name and a physical freak but I never understood how UFC could legitimately give Brock Lesnar that title fight when they did.

There was a huuuuge gap in talent at the time. There still is, but not as bad now. Lesnar had already gone up against Mir and Herring with pretty positive results (was beating Mir until that suspect call and dominated Herring completely). Anyone else was a step down in skill or rank at that point, and, considering Brock's age, putting a guy who is already a known name up against the lower card guys like you would with a normal fighter is a wasted money opportunity. Everyone attributes Lesnar's success to his freakish body, but we all forget the guy's an athletic sponge. Collegiate wrestling to pro wrestling to the NFL (seems like lol, but he set a record while he was there for the little time he was) to the UFC. If you watch his fights, he handles most situations progressively better each time he comes up against them. Now imagine if he got into the UFC at a younger age or if he were part of a real camp, not a bunch of yes men.

i dunno, the title shot seemed pretty legit considering he won the fucker and thus was better than the champion at the time. it's more when randoms like okami or hardy get them that it is strange.

I feel like Brock's early success kind of fucked him for later. The wins came so easily that he probably didn't see a need to actively spar to improve his stand up and figured all he needed was his wrestling and superior size and athleticism. Once he came against guys who weren't in their mid 40s with better stand up than Mir and Herrig his flaws got exposed.
