Actually, that's a fair assessment. I felt Rounds 1 and 2 went to Shogun, but they could have gone either way. Rounds 3-5 are spot on.

In any event, the Machida Mystique is gone, and I don't have to spend $60 a month for Karate classes.

I'm actually a Machida fan.

I was seriously considering taking Karate Classes if he won. He "won" according to the shit decision, so it's not happening.

I saw some vids of him on youtube teaching his footwork. You can just watch those. Anyways if anyone was to take away his elusiveness or make it not as effective then Machida would have to be more offensive. I still think it's a good idea to learn footwork and be elusive but if the dude can still catch you then you gotta step up.

I've watched a lot of Machida's fights and he didn't look the same going into this fight but if he had more of those flurries where he had Rua up against the cage scrambling just like when he knocked out Evans then I'm sure he could knock Rua out or at least get some points his way. I think he was too set in his style and was bored and didn't adapt to the new situation.

yea he looked a step too slow or something.... watch him KO rua bad in the rematch or something haha

I couldn't believe it when the decision was made. After round 5 ended, I was discussing with my buddy that "this loss will be good for Machida and will make him a much better fighter." Then Buffer announced that Machida was the winner, and our jaws dropped in disbelief.

The whole preshow thing reminded me of Rocky III. Machida was explaining how he couldn't train at his dojo because of all the attention and people wanting photos/autographs/write articles. Despite his training out on the farm, I'm sure with the heroic reception in his hometown, hype, etc, he had lost the eye of the tiger.

Outside of a few techniques, Machida was not impressive against Rua. Machida would be best to forget that he is the champion, and treat the rematch as a title shot.

It would have been really interesting if Machida had given the belt to Rua and raised Rua's hand after the decision.

I talked about this fight with a guy I work with who is a casual MMA fan. He said Shogun didn't do enough to win the fight, the advantage goes to the champion. He was not upset by the result at all.

This fight was NOT a blow out I dont' get how so many people are flying off the handle.

I think he was too cautious in the early rounds. Waited to feel out Shogun too long. And then by the later rounds his stance and footwork had been nullified by Rua's leg and body kicks. By the 4th and 5th Machida didn't even take as deep a stance he normally takes, which affected his power generation for all of his strikes.

Kinda weird, considering Machida came out early in the first with a good flurry of punches and knees....and then he just reverted back to being almost completely defensive. I mean, he IS the UFC LHW Champion and one of the best fighters in the world so it's hard for me to say he should of done this or that.

in championship matches, the advantage is to the champion unless you are a much bigger name such as randy or forrest. Previous performances of the competitors also factor into their "judging"...

I am hoping to catch Dana on one of these twitter ticket giveaways in Manchester before the show.

And just to add my 2 cents, I think Machida won 3 rounds. But if I was to say who performed better over the 25 minutes, it's Shogun. I honestly think Machida avoiding the take down in the 3rd won him the fight. Shogun talked up his patience and all that, but it ultimately cost him the fight. He could have been more aggressive more of the time.

I originally said he only won 1, but I find it very hard to score a fight when I am watching as a fan and not expecting to have to question the judges.
