The mind of a Yankees fan is truly a disturbing place.
"This season is really making me sad," says one Yankees fan, noting how dismal his team's 92-63 record looks. Of course it's futile to remind Yankees fan that their team won the World Series last year, they have the best roster again this year, are almost guaranteed to go to the playoffs this season, and have the most stupidly spoiled fan base in American sports. |

Remember how glorious it was when they finally broke the 10 year old curse and brought joy back to the New York area?

Yeah it was good to see the World series title back home where it belonged.... Which is right next to the life size plaque of George Steinbrenner.
It's such a joy to see the Yankees trying to win one for George. It puts tears in my eyes. |

Yeah, Yankee fans are ridiculous. Completely over-priveleged. I know Mets fans have a reputation for being negative (myself included) but fuck, at least our team has horrendous management, makes constant mistakes, a GM who can't speak and blames reporters, no communication, no vision, a clueless medical staff, finally came within a game of the World Series only for the franchise to spiral out of control since, and will always be the #2 team in the market no matter what.
In 2008 the Yankees miss the playoffs for the first time in 13 years and their fanbase goes into mass hysteria. Nothing like panicking about a team that will probably always hold the record for the most World Series titles. |

Dice-K vs. Phil Hughes, would love to see some form of a decent outing from a starter.

There's still a week left in the season and everything but around this time of the year it's fun to go ahead and look at some of the good/bad predictions I made right before the start of the year.
Prophetic line of my predictions (in regards to the Yankees and Red Sox): "As much as I hate making this reference, it really would take 2009 Mets-esque injuries to keep either team out of the postseason." who really knows where the Sox would be had they not had so many key guys go down. Plus, I figured the Rays would be decent but not as good as they were. Also saw the Jays finishing last. Close to prophetic: Predicting the Reds to finish 2nd in the division with an over-.500 campaign. I said they'd be good and look to be serious contenders in 2011. Obviously they surpassed my prediction and the Cards fell apart. Still pretty cool. Didn't see much good in store for the other 4 NL Central teams so that was right. Spot-on: Seems like the AL Central is the only division I'm gonna get 100% right. Of course, that also seemed like the easiest division to call out of all of them. Near spot-on: Barring a change in this last week I mixed up the Mets and Marlins in the NL East, but other than that I had the Phillies winning (as everybody did) with the Braves 2nd. My main problem was that I figured the 2-4 teams would all be at or around .500, don't think the Mets or Marlins will get there unless they have a hot final week of meaningless baseball. Biggest fail: The NL West by far. I had the Rockies winning, which is still possible...but the Diamondbacks finishing 2nd and winning the Wild Card. Oops. I also figured Webb would be back early. Even worse, I had the Giants 4th and the Padres 5th. Didn't think either team had the offense to contend. In fairness, their offenses still suck but the pitching on both teams has been insane. Not as bad of a fail: I called the Rangers winning the West and the Angels disappointing. But I had the Mariners finishing 2nd (though I DID say I wasn't totally sold, I didn't think they'd be as bad as they have been). I also said the A's would suck but they've been better than I thought. NL Award fails: AJ Hinch winning NL Manager of the Year. Yeahhhhhhh.......oops. Pujols for MVP, Lincecum for Cy, and Reyes for Comeback are still possible. Heyward for ROTY is basically a lock. AL Award fails: Mark Teixeira for AL MVP. Not that he's horrible or anything but there are two guys on his own team with much better cases. Felix for Cy, Feliz for ROTY, and Washington for MOTY are still possible. Marcum for Comeback probably wasn't predicted by many but is also a very real possibility. Postseason fails: Won't fully know these until it's all said and done. But a Yanks/Sox ALCS barring a miracle is not happening. We also won't be seeing Webb and Haren taking the Phillies to the limit in the NLDS, nor will we see the Cardinals in the World Series. |

Wonderful, Papelbon felt like blowing another save after Red Sox managed to get Riveria to blow a save, the lead, and somehow 4 stolen bases.

So clutch performance of the year might have to go to Matt Cain yesterday against Colorado. A day after a devastating extra innings loss to the Rockies that knocked the Giants out of first, Cain comes in and throws a 3 hitter at Coors and puts the Giants back on top.
Cain's been pretty much ignored during the "year of the pitcher," but he's put together a great season and honestly scares me more than any pitcher not named Roy in the playoffs. |

Look out for the Giants in the postseason if they got there. I've always felt the "pitching wins championships" mantra only applied for the postseason, and that you still need an offense to get there. Giants are proving me wrong.
Would love to see a Giants/Phillies matchup. Could get some scoreless duels. |

Not bad, but considering his average of 43/year, his last two years have been pretty disappointing on the power side.

He's had a couple DL stints this year, the powers numbers weren't there most of the year, but the hits/RBIs were still coming.

Yeah, he just gets no run support. I may be biased though since I only really get to watch him when he faces the Rockies and he's always owned the Rockies.

I love MLB Network. 3 postseason clinchers back-to-back-to-back capping off with Bruce's first-pitch jack.
So it's settled. Reds and Rangers are the top two teams I'll be pulling for this postseason. Of course, more than anything else I'll just be rooting against the Yankees and Phillies...and I'd have to root against the Braves if they pull out the Wild Card. 5 or 6 teams I wouldn't mind seeing win it all. Not bad. ![]() |

I think the best chance of knocking the Phils out would be if they got the Giants in the first round. Anything can happen in a short series, especially since the pitching would probably cancel each other out.
It would require the Reds finishing up with a better record (their record is one worse than the Giants right now) while the Braves hold onto the WC. It's possible. |

Cards have been mathematically eliminated anyway.
8 postseason spots, 6 have clinched - only 3 teams mathematically still in the running for the final 2 slots. If the Giants/Braves can win their next 2 games and the Pads drop their next 2, the race is already over. Would be the first time in quite awhile that there's been a final weekend of completely meaningless baseball across the board. Well, actually, there's still the AL East race technically but nobody seems to really give a shit about the formality/home field that goes along with it. |

It'll be interesting. The AL East winner will get the Rangers, while the Wild Card get the Twins.
Part of me thinks the Twins are hoping the Yanks win the East given the past history, but then again this is a much better Twins team than year's past. |

I still hope the Yankees don't get the East. I would rather face the Twins. I always hoped to see Tampa and Texas go at it first. I do not want to face Cliff Lee our first round.
