The Spurs completely throw off Phoenix's way of playing. They clog up the court and don't allow them to run like they normally do. The Spurs are and have been the best team in basketball all year, they just happen to be one of the least exciting teams as well.

Well, we just saw the Spurs end Suns season, too bad. Maybe if Johnson can play a little more effectively and not go 5 of 15 in game 4 they might extend it to atleast 5 and take it back to Phoenix, cause everyone knows the finals in the East won't be finished for awhile....

Anyone hear Van gundy's comments on Detroit's crowd? They are giving it even more validity now.

The Miami-Detroit series is great. Easilly the two best teams. Wade has become a bona-fide superstar, if you want one guard in the league right now its Wade. He is on the same level as Kobe, T-Mac, Ray Allen, Vince, any of them. Don't go off attributing all of his success to Shaquile, Wade was going to be amazing anyway but Shaq just makes him that much better.
That being said, one of the things that makes Shaq so much better then any other center in the league is his awareness. When he posts up, he doesn't automatically shoot. There are countless centers who could do that (obviously not as effectively) and become better players. Michael Olowokandi for example, I've never seen him pass the ball in his life, he just takes shitty shots everytime he touches the ball. Any center posting up will open up the floor to an extent. With Shaq you don't know if he is going to turn on you and slam it down or kick it out, and that is what makes him so much more effective then say Erick Dampier. Obviously Shaq is a monster, but he is a smart player too and I don't think he gets that credit. |

Also, I am going for Detroit because I just like them better for some reason (and my friend wants Miami so it would be boring to go the same way), but I am glad that Shaq is back. Either team who wins deserves to be in the finals and can hopefully defeat the Spurs, but its going to be a great series and with Shaq back in the lineup it guarantees for even better games.
The Spurs-Suns is boring to watch because the Spurs collapse on the Suns, they can't do anything. What made the Suns so good earlier in the year was that Nash could drive into the lane and kick it out to Johnson, Q, or Marion for a three, or else they could send it back in to Amare who would be home free. I know Q has lost his touch but it doesn't seem like they are even trying that anymore. They just force the ball inside and get blocked by Nazr etc. Anyway, it looks like the Suns are going to be beat, and its been pretty clear all year that the Spurs are the best team in the West, but that doesn't take anything away from the Suns. I know there are people here who have been calling this all year, the Suns run out of gas, bla bla, but they didn't, they just ran into the team that they can't beat. Their style can win them a lot of games, but not against a team so sound on offense and defense like the Spurs. The Suns had an impressive win over Dallas, they deserved to get that far, but San Antonio is just a great overall team and they play the kind of defense that you can not run around. Also, I think Ginobili and Parker are the two most underrated players out there. Yeah Tim Duncan is an amazing player, but he gets all the credit and he shouldn't. Parker is arguably one of the best points in the game right now. Nobody can guard him. |

That block by Amare on Duncan was absolutely sick. I'm not counting the Suns out at all. I've seen the Spurs blow series leads before. It would be a mistake to not win game 5 if your the Spurs.

Suns got pretty luck last game.
I dont know why the Spurs missed so many free throws. They would've won if they hit their free throws. Anyway, I know they will come out strong Game 5 and finish this series. |

Hot game though. Seemed like the Spurs players were being bitches the whole game and wanted all the calls. Tim wanted a goaltending when Amare made that nasty block at the end. ![]() I kinda wish Johnson would have been available the first 3 games. Still tho, hot game. Looking forward to game 5. |

League sources leaking this information is killing the Pistons. In any event, this just enters Detroit into the Phil Jackson sweepstakes.

And the Suns did get away with alot of calls.
I'm not worried though. After a game like this, it's usually trendy for them to come out with a blowout. We'll see though. They really need that freethrow ability from the first 3 games. |

Haha ok dude
![]() If you want to see a team getting calls, See : Shaq's third foul. Pretty ridunkulous. I just turned it off, knew it was going to be a long night. I don't believe the whole Larry Brown taking away his team's chemistry and momentum thing. This team is too professional to let that mess with them. Had to make the series interesting again though... |

Brown emphatically denied the Cleveland rumors tonight. This breaking news was coming from the same (I think) ESPN reporter who said that - if he was healthy enough - Brown would absolutely be coming back to coach the Pistons next year.
Until he signs that contract, I'm not going to believe it, and his players shouldn't either. Besides that, Brown is notorious for playing teams against each other in games of "do we have him?" He'll stay with Detroit unless his health worsens in the next couple of weeks. Besides, why wouldn't he want to stick around for a threepeat? |

The worst case I have ever seen (biased) of non-calling in a basketball game was in the Western Finals last year, when Shaq got 5 fouls early, like I think it might have even been in the third quarter, but the officials like absolutely refused to give him his sixth. It was rediculous, and they won the game because of it. Ugh.

I just realized Mike D'Antoni won coach of the year. WTF why. Cuz his team had the best record? Please. Poppovich outcoached him miserably this series, and then there's that Brown guy in Detroit.
And to anybody who actually thought the Suns would make the finals, I say this to you: haha, you're dumb |

I was actually thinking about making a thread similar to Miz's post, and I probably will.
Anyway, I didn't think the Suns could do it but I had hope. They didn't look like the Suns in this series, the Spurs just know how to stop them, but honestly, a Detroit vs. San Antonio finals could be pretty slow. |

It would be pretty cool if Miami won. Wade is simply the shit, I think he is more the superstar on that team then Shaq.
Also, Splaya, weren't you the one who thought the Detroit Tigers had a chance in the Central? Also, on another note, didn't Dmitri Young tell the press early in the season that they didn't have to worry about the Twins because the AL Central was going to be between the Tigers and the Indians? What DMITRI YOU FAT PIECE OF SHIT. Go on. |

Yeah, like anybody thought that the White Sox were going to be one of the best teams in baseball before the season.
And it's halftime of Game 5 as I write this and, so far, this is the worst officiating job I've seen...well, since Tuesday night. Seriously, it's like the Heat are playing 8-5 right now. Detroit is getting whistled for the most ridiculous crap (see the "charge" where Dooling - I think it was Dooling - was still mid-stride; Ben Wallace "fouling" Wade while Wade walked through the lane). There have been a couple of calls where the Pistons have been called for offensive fouls where the Heat player was inside the arc. And it's like watching a 2003 Lakers game with the amount of no-calls on Shaq. I swear, if this is the way the game is being called now, someone should sign Akebono to an NBA contract, get him some conditioning training, and put him on the court. If you're allowed to just push your man under the basket and not get called for an offensive foul, Akebono could be the next dominant NBA center. As much as I like Shaq as a "character," I hate hate hate the way he plays the game. They might as well just hand the referees Miami jerseys when they walk in the door. |

And by many you mean absolutely nobody? I hate to veer off topic, but when the Twins return a pitching staff that included the cy young winner and the lowest team ERA, brings in two top prospects, is the reigning champ for three years and the Indians have a breakout year with tons of young players, nobody would picks a team who just traded away their best two players (Ordonez, Lee) and has two good pitchers (Buerhle, Garcia).
Don't get me wrong, the White Sox are legit, but to say that you called them being this good and pretending you somehow predicted that John Garland and the rest of their team finally broke out of their shells is utter BS. If you did actually predict them, you were just trying to be different. Shut up. Go Twins and Mets. |

I feel obligated to go back on topic for ya'll now.
I don't think its stupid for people to think the Suns had a chance this year. Realistically, they have the number of every team in the NBA besides the Spurs, maybe one or two others (I don't know how they matched up against Detroit and Miami). If the Spurs had gotten knocked out in an earlier round, there is no doubt that the Suns can beat every other team in the West. Houston, Denver, Sacramento, Seattle, whoever. It was pretty much a fact all year that the Spurs were the best team in the West, but the way that the Suns play they are going to win a lot of games, its that simple. Like I said in another thread, you can be the best team but not neccessarily win the championship. Where the false hope for us Phoenix fans came was when Tim Duncan went down with an injury late in the regular season and the Spurs looked like...well the Timberwolves. They couldn't beat the Washington Generals. The only problem is that Duncan came back and the Spurs got back to normal, and I think that it is going to take a miracle for them to lose four games. So in conclusion, its not the Suns inadequacy, its the Spurs pure domination. |

I'm blaming most of it on Marion. He scored like what, 10 points the whole series? And he scored 4 or so while Johnson was out the first two games. Sure, Jim Jackson picked up SOME slack, but Marion needed to be more of an offensive presence.
Good season though. Can't wait till next year. Although, I will say this...I'm kind of glad the Suns didn't win. I have noticed Amare becoming a huge whiney bitch. If you ask me, he's starting to turn into a Kobe. Hopefully, this loss will knock him down a peg or two and humble him. And you gotta admit, this year has been pretty impressive for the team's first year. The only returning players were Marion, JJ, and Amare (And I guess Voskuhl and Barbosa). They traded a bunch scrubs (Chabarkaba, Jacobsen [Although, Jacobsen is pretty good]) for some depth. Hopefully, they'll have a good draft this year. CAN'T WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!!! |

P.S.
Quote me on this. As of Thursday, June 2nd, 2005, I, Joey RoXer, predict that: THE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS WILL BE A PLAYOFF CONTENDER. POSSIBLY AS HIGH AS A 4TH SEED. If they can make an incredible draft pick, then this team will be the 04-05 Suns. That is, if they don't pull a Warriors type of move and trade Davis for nothing. (Which I seriously don't even think they will do.) |

Isn't there a good chance that Joe Johnson signs somewhere else next year? If you ask me that ruins the Suns. They need both Joe and Q to be hot to be good. Q was like everything in the first half of the season.

What impresses me is that the Spurs played reserve with the Suns because of all the injuries.
Nesterovic and Duncan with sprained ankles. Brown with a disc injury. Ginobili just plain fucked up. Now that the finals are here... they can let loose. Everything is going on the line. SPURS ARENT BORING!!! |
