Kid A is a criminally underrated album
Not really in terms of people who just plain dislike Radiohead, in that case it doesn't really matter how good it is.
But I mean with people who like some Radiohead, and even a few magazines. They treat it like some kind of abomination. Most of my friends love Pablo Honey (which I dislike) and The Bends, but then OK Computer strays into the "too progressive" stage from the Britpop formula, and only a couple really like it. People treat Kid A like a traiterous leap from the Bends, and it has gained this horrible reputation whereby people refuse to even listen to it because "Radiohead went up their own arses" or they should "make albums like the Bends again". I only bought it second hand for €8 because I wasn't sure, because of the furore when it came out, but I took a punt because OK Computer is one of the greatest albums of all time and much better than the Bends. Kid A is as good, for me, as OK Computer. I listened to it this weekend, with someone who likes Radiohead but previously said they didn't really like Kid A, and when they actually listened to it, they ended up putting it on another two times in a row, and went out that day to buy themselves a copy. Sometimes it pays to listen to an album rather than listen to a bunch of idiots. ![]() Quote:

I'm not too hot on Radiohead, but I did quite like the track I heard off Kid A. Can't remember its damn name though. Should probably check out more off the album...

Track list, for anyone interested:
1. Everything in its right place 2. Kid A 3. National anthem 4. How to disappear completely 5. Treefingers 6. Optimistic 7. In limbo 8. Idioteque 9. Morning bell 10. Motion picture soundtrack Treefingers is the only one I don't really like, because it's basically noise. The rest are all great, but particularly 1-4 and 8-10. I also like a few tracks on Amnesiac, but I find it almost unlistenable right the way through. |

Yeah it is. I didn't like it at first but one day I was just looking for something different to what i'd usually listen to and I picked it up at the library. It's what got me into radiohead really, I hated them before then.
pablo honey, amnesiac and hail to the thief are a bit crap though. |

I agree about Pablo Honey, and Amnesiac, but I like Hail to the Thief. It's just a bit overlong. They cropped a great song like Gagging Order off it, and left a couple of shit ones on.

I like it a lot. It is especially good while under the influence of marijuana.

hail to the thief is my favourite of the three but it still doesn't do a whole lot for me. with the bends, ok computer and kid A, there's a lot going on... amnesiac and hail to the thief are a bit empty sounding in comparison. hail to the thief has better songs by far of the two though.

I think Amnesiac is basically the stuff that didn't make Kid A, or something like that.

I agree, I
Kid A almost as much as OK Computer. I remember a mate saying that Kid A was originally going to be a double album but that idea got canned for whatever reason and it was split into Kid A and Amnesiac. I haven't heard all of Amnesiac but I liked Pyramid song and Knives Out. |

I would like Radiohead so much better if they were an instrumental band.

Umm hmmm I'm kinda biased....considering....it's obvious how much I love Radiohead...
But it took 3 listens for me to like Kid A. I bought on a whim after realizing that I knew every song on Ok Computer without ever knowing it was Radiohead or what album my brother was playing. Lets just say Radiohead is (maybe) the primary reason I actually listen to music now. Up to that point I had never really listened to music besides on the radio. I mean the first CD I ever bought was SW Episode I.... Kid A blew my mind. Every Radiohead album blows my mind. If people would get past the whole "Radiohead is overrated" thing or the "Radiohead is f-n wierd" thing, they might realize what good music they produce. Kid A shoved it in the faces of everyone in the music industry. People wanted Ok Computer 2 and they got Kid A. And it got them an album of the year nomination. I try and think of another CD of this current timeframe with that sort of sound, and I'm really left emptyhanded. Some people might say Hybrid Theory or somethign like that, but I don't that fits. People need to get past the fact that Radiohead may not be the most pop-culture savvy band or the easiest band to listen to. You may not like them, but they deserve a listen. I have had the fortune of seeing them in concert, and I must say that hearing Kid A songs in a concert should blow anyone's mind. People that call Radiohead a fabricated band are clearly wrong when they play something like Idioteque in concert. Songs I heard from Kid A at concert... EIIRP National Anthem Morning Bell In Limbo Idioteque And every one sounded perfect. But I can understand why people hate them. I hate bands frequently....just because. I'm a hyprocrite in that respect. I wish I could listen to more current bands like I would like people to listen to what I listen to. All music...except Yanni...should be worth listening to. |

Is Motion Picture Soundtrack the same song as Exit Music For A Film?

Kid A is fantastic - way better than Amnesiac imo (though I do like some songs of Amnesiac). Part from Treefingers yeah . Hail to thief I really like though yeah it does go on a bit and Gagging Order is way to good to be dumped for some of the songs on there.PS HAVE MY BABIES ECG

Exit Music is a good song, but it is depressing. Ever see the Father Ted episode where Ted convinces a suicidal priest (played by Tommy Tiernan) not to kill himself, and the priest gets a whole new outlook on life and goes travelling.
It shows him later on, on a bus, all happy and pleased. The radio is playing on the bus, and Exit Music comes on, and as it plays, the priest gets more and more unhappy until he wants to kill himself again. Beautiful. |

On a related note, I just got the Kid A from the Dublin gig I was at off Soulseek. At least, it says it's from Dublin on the 4/12/03.

They played Kid A when I saw them too - kind of cool used some tiny keyboard or sampler thing.

I really like this album. My favorite songs off of it being Idioteque, How to Disappear Completly, and Everything in its Right Place. Overall however it doesn't have the same amount of great songs that Pablo Honey or OK Computer.

Kid A has Idioteque, my favorite Radiohead song. Overall, The Bends is my favorite, but it's closely followed my OK Computer and Kid A.
