TNA has no "identity"

So, I haven't been able to watch or access any wrestling shows for almost 3 weeks now. I still know what's going on in the WWE: Miz is the champ, Cena took out the Nexus, Edge is now a 10-timer and CM Punk is coming back to take on Superman.

But I don't hear or know shit about what's going on with TNA. For people who are keeping up with them, is their programming really so low key and uninteresting that they have no identity today?

Basically.......yes. TNA has really dropped the ball as of late strongly due to the involvement of Hogan, Bischoff, and Flair... now granted Flair has been pretty funny at times but Bischoff is annoying as always and Hogan.... well yeah he has been washed up for about 10years now

TNA actually HAD an identity.

That identity is called the garbage dump or the retriment home.

You see, every wrestler who cant make it in the WWE or who is too old to still wrestle goes to TNA and TNA tries to re make storylines from WWF attitude and fail badly. Look they are ripping off the nWo and its been years since the nWo and they are still trying to make money from Hulk Hogan and other washed up crap. They hire any retard as long as they was in the WWE for example druggies like Jef Hardy and Kurt Angle and then they book the worst possible shows.

TNA is basically like wCw at its worst.

They was great in the WWE but lets face the facts they have acted like idiots for the past years. Jeff refused help for his problems and ran from the WWE to TNA just so he can smoke some more pot! And Kurt Angle is just insane he keeps eating steroids and thinks hes still as good as he was years ago guess what hes not.

i used to be a tna mark, and yes i will say it, the 6 sided ring is what drew me in flipping through the channels one night. then i saw the talent, the aj styles, samoa joes, kazarians, eric youngs, jay lethals, MCMGs and so on and so forth.

back then they had that appeal, just raw in ring talent. hogan and bischoff and russo came in and just drained anything positive in tna. hogan fucking sucks, and i have never liked bischoff, and flair is just a peice of shit. i respect what hogan and flair have done for the business, but as people, they are absolute shit.

tna is boring in how its in the same small studio every week, and they tend to tape 2-5 shows in 2 or 3 days or so, thats over a months worth of tv programming taped in a couple of days, that sucks. basically because of hogan and bischoff i became a WWE fan again, even tho at times i dont believe in their direction either

Technology is good...technological advances are awesome...but I think TNA takes it TOO far. Everytime I watch their show, I almost feel like they are wrestling in another galaxy...their Impact Zone has too many colors, too many lights, within such an enclosed space. All these neon colors and lasers and stuff.

And not to mention the camera angle they use whenever they show someone backstage...they keep panning in and out, while the wrestlers talks, they'll pan into their ear, you'll see a finger, their hair, half their face...it absolutely ruins it for me.

Too much of anything can be a bad thing.

Jeff Hardy is a glorified, overpaid, stuntman. Its fun to watch when he dives off a 20ft ladder and almost breaks his tail bone because he missed the table, but thats about it. He is dull in the ring and TERRIBLE....FUCKING TERRIBLE on the mic. My flaccid cock could shoot a better promo than Jeff Hardy could on his best day.

There you go.

Personally, I think TNA needs to just dial things back and remember that less is more. I get what they are trying to do with the camera angles and such, but it gets distracting, and guys look even dumber when they don't notice a guy with a camera standing in the doorway to their meeting room.

Beyond that, I think TNA needs to stop trying to put everyone over as a star. I'm not sure who the top face in TNA is meant to be. I want to guess either Kurt Angle or Mr. Anderson, with Matt Morgan just stepping up with Anderson's injury, but then you have Rob Van Dam floating around there, too.

TNA has Samoa Joe and The Pope under contract, and both guys should be top faces, but there just isn't enough room for them up the top. The mid-card divisions essentially only have one guy in them each. Perhaps some guys clogging up the main event scene should be working down there?

Hogan has ruined TNA the way Hogan ruins EVERYTHING! Seriously, I've said it so many times in the past, I can't wait for the day Hogan dies so I can come on here and be the biggest prick imaginable to anyone who says all that RIP bullshit. The man is a huge cancerous mole on the wrestling industry, who has done nothing to help anyone other than himself.

Before Hogan, I loved TNA. They had a great roster, great matches, okay storylines (come on, WWE has a few stinkers too), but I haven't followed anything TNA since Hogan came along and stole the spotlight from all the young wrestlers who had earned it.

As I dont follow TNA at the moment, can someone answer me this: since Hogan/Bischoff joined the company, has there ever been a main event, whether on Impact or PPV or anywhere else, that didn't involve a run-in, a beatdown at the end, or ANY kind of drama etc?

Hogan and Bischoff seem to be living in 1996 all over again.

It's a real shame because TNA has assembled some great talent over the last two years. I'll record Impact with the aim of fast-forwarding through the promos, interviews, skits and segments, and when I finally get a decent match it's typically only 3 to 5 minutes long and usually ended with a run-in of some sort.

It's like they read 'The Death of WCW' and decided that all the things they did were good ideas.

I don't see how Kurt Angle is a problem in TNA, if anything you're in for a pretty good match when he is in there. Angle is one of the all time best wrestlers and I have always been a Jeff Hardy mark. I have never liked Matt who I feel is the more screwed up hardy. Jeff entertains me and I like that he's a big name.

I agree with you in some aspects of this post. I think that TNA DOES foam at the mouth at most WWE releases. However, I don't agree or appreciate some of the harsh and unreal accusations.

I really used to like TNA. I had such high hopes for it, I really wanted to see some competition for WWE.

When they hired Hogan & Bischoff, I knew that wouldnt happen.

So now, i'm just coming to grips with the fact that no one will challenge WWE, certainly not TNA, which will be dead by this time next year.

TNA had the X Division at its best, a great tag division, a Knockouts division worth watching. Even the 6 sided ring.

Now, all I can think of is Hogan and Bischoff and it makes me not watch. So thats their current identity.

While I think they have a good tag division (not much by way of competition thanks to WWE's tag division) , the rest of this statement is exactly how I feel.

When they let the roster actually wrestle, without the stupid stipulations that dont get enforced or the overcrowded booking and run-ins and swerves, TNA's awesome. If they filmed the house shows it would be 1000x better than the shit they put on tv. They had an actual womens division, that drew, because of the simplicity of it. A tag division that had matches as PPV main events, cant remember that ever happening in WWE or WCW when 1 tagteam wasnt 2 maineventers. They created a really solid undercard, alot of younger talent, and could push stuff outside a PG rating, but they cant decied if they want to be an alternative or a tribute show.

And i get that kayfabes dead, but fuck off with the episode titles.

Smackdown has episode titles they just don't put them on screen. You only see them when you see a Smackdown feed from another country online.

Haven't watched properly since that 'retard Abyss' angle was in full swing. I assume it has just gone downhill since then.

Simply put they took a risk with the current major storyline and its flatlining, i don't even understand or can properly follow and care for a storyline in TNA.

there has to be a breaking point, either TNA flops and goes under or by some stroke of luck something good actually works out...it can't continue this way.

You know, while I think the idea of episode titles are dumb for a main show, I wouldn't mind SmackDown! doing it if they acknowledged things were taped, and/or advertised big main events. SmackDown! has sort differed from RAW in just the way they promote their matches throughout the show. If Jack Swagger was confirmed to be challenging for the World Heavyweight Title, for example, I wouldn't mind the WWE calling that week's show "Night of the Eagle." Where TNA goes wrong is that they seem to title their shows after the "unpredictable" out of ring storylines.

Going simple would be the best way for TNA to go, but they've booked themselves into so many corners. I'd love it if TNA just dropped the whole "Immortal" thing, but that's not going to happen. It's just tidying it up.

It also seems that TNA seems to scrap their plans. The Bound For Glory main event was seemingly all primed to be Rob Van Dam vs. Kurt Angle. Yes, two ex-WWE guys, but also two of the most exciting (still, in the case of Angle, anyway) and over men the company has. Angle should have won the World Heavyweight Title there, and things would be all sweet. Instead we got Jeff Hardy winning the World Title (which could have happened later, screwed over Angle and essentially streamlined the money match to culminate Jeff Hardy's reign as Hardy vs. Angle II). Now I can't tell who the top face is, and cloudiness there makes it hard to get into any sort of title match.

TNA should start thinking about Lockdown, which is usually a pretty big PPV for them -- where feuds end and momentum can be built for the summer months. What matches will TNA run then? While I can't imagine what the World Title match will be, I guess they could have Mr. Anderson, Matt Morgan, Rob Van Dam, "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero & Douglas Williams (and even Eric Young) to face Immortal, with the stipulation being that the winning team's management representative (Dixie Carter or Eric Bischoff) gets power. Representing Immortal would be Jeff Hardy, Abyss and...fuck. Who else in Immortal is worth a damn? There are the guys in Fortune, but I think they are better suited to their own storylines.

For example, I am hoping that AJ Styles' failure to keep Ric Flair and Eric Bischoff happy leads to a feud with Frankie Kazarian, who does manage to satisfy them, culminating in a match at Lockdown (which you know would be awesome). Provided that Kazarian is the X-Division Champion, the title could also get a boost from that match. And if Flair hasn't truly picked a side yet, he could be the Special Guest Referee for the match.

Samoa Joe has reportedly re-signed with TNA, and it wouldn't make sense to have him return against anyone but Jeff Jarrett, who has schooled him in the past few weeks. But Jarrett will be tied up with Angle. Truthfully, though, I could get into a Three-Way Steel Cage Match between Angle, Jarrett & Joe. Have Angle and Jarrett cancel each other out, and build up Joe to be a contender for the World Heavyweight Title.

Throw in your usual X-Division X-Scape Match and The Queen of the Cage, and you only need to really book a TNA World Tag Team Title Match (Beer Money, Inc. vs. The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Generation Me vs. London Brawling...book it), a Knockout Title Match (Mickie James vs. Tara II?) and you're pretty much set. Give those matches time, and you have clear direction for 2011. It won't happen that way, though.

I think the main thing I'm taking from this thread is that TNA hasn't established a number one good guy. It used to be AJ Styles, but he turned heel. Then there was Sting, who was over the hill and couldn't put on the matches they needed in the ME. Samoa Joe has never been given the ball and allowed to run with it. Then it was Christian, but he got shafted a bit when Kurt Angle showed up. Then Kurt turned heel. Now RVD might be the top guy, or maybe Mr. Anderson or Matt Morgan. It's just not clear.

In the WWE, we know who the number one guy is. Cena. Has been forever now. Perhaps on par (or slightly behind him) are Randy Orton and Triple H, then guys like Rey Mysterio and Undertaker right behind them. It makes for a clear cut idea of what will happen on RAW.

There are plenty of contenders for the #1 guy in TNA. Kurt Angle is the obvious choice. Despite his problems and injuries, Angle is the best talker and worker in the business today. They just need to make him face and focus on making him THE GUY in TNA: the one who the TNA World Title revolves around, and if not the World champion/contender, his storyline should be front and center. Right now he and JJ are playing second fiddle to this Immortals/Bischoff/Hogan/Flair bullshit, and frankly nobody gives a shit.

RVD, Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles are all contenders for the "top guy" spot too, but they aren't the total package in the way that Kurt Angle is. I thought they were going to take Mr. Anderson in that direction, but it seems he's been lost amongst all the other bullshit.

TNA is far too heel/face turn happy to establish a real #1 guy. But that is what they need. A poster boy.
