Mike Starr, the former bassist of Alice in Chains, has died at the age of 44, according to TMZ. Police reportedly found Starr’s body in a Salt Lake City home earlier today, though the cause of death is not yet known. Starr co-founded Alice and Chains alongside Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, and Sean Kinney in 1987 and contributed to two studio albums — including the 1992 classic Dirt — before departing in 1993. Starr would later gain notoriety for his appearance on VH1′s Celebrity Rehab, where he admitted that he was in fact kicked out of Alice in Chains due to drug addiction. Last month, Starr was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance after police discovered him with 6 Xanax pills and 6 Opana (painkiller) pills.
