I miss real heel/face turns

I was just thinking... How huge is it for a guy to have a legit "moment" in turning heel or face? WWE has gotten into a habit with guys like The Miz, del Rio, Kane, Daniel Bryan (both his original heel turn and now his face turn) where guys just turn and you barely even realize it until it's happened. I feel like a turn in a golden opportunity for a memorable moment and there's just no thought put into making that moment anymore. The only real turns I can remember giving us a moment in recent memory are Big Show and Punk. If they turn Orton, having him just RKO Sheamus out of nowhere at WrestleMania would be a pretty sweet moment.

I think the way Daniel turned was golden though. The crowd basically changed him.

Do understand your point and agree 100%.

Mark Henry's face turn during the Orton Gauntlet was epic.

They used never draw out turns, now its all they do.

Would love a quick, powerful action to turn someone heel, agreed.

Sometimes, the slow burn works, as well. Like the initial Shawn Michaels heel turn.

Bryan's non existant face turn has worked brilliantly, because he's still an absolute dick and the only difference is he's facing heels most of the time. Usually when they turn guys face they suddenly do a 180 and are all happy and

R-Truth had a great heel turn a few years back, Christian's was pretty good too.

The weird thing about Bryan's non-existent face turn is how the commentators (mainly Lawler) have become the non-existent heels towards him for no real reason.

Yeah. Ever since having too much time to think about it this past Sunday bored at work, I just can't see Cena not turning heel and winning. I realized he could lose again and that would be the pivot point for the heel turn but the bigger impact would be for an x-7 Austin style heel turn at wm.

I think Cena cheating and joining The Shield would be epic. That could explain why they quit interacting with each other. What greater injustice is there than a guy who has done everything right and bent over backwards for WWE and the fans than to constantly get shit on by a guy who shows up whenever he wants and get boo'd because he calls him out on it?

Still seems like it would have been bigger if they kept him face while getting screwed. Everyone would have wanted to see that "One. More. Match!"

Made him seem like he was unable to get it done without help as opposed to being burned by countless technicalities, and that one perception was compounded by that heel turn. Nobody wanted to see him get countless chances and lose. Now, if he were to actually capitalize on one of those matches, then keep winning by backing into victories (kind of like Punk just got done doing), that would have made his last heel run a bit more enjoyable.

Absolutely. They tend to "gradually" turn guys heel too much. Heel turns should be these freak-out things that are really dickish, like Truth. They should also only be in high profile matches and feuds if they can perform at that level. Babyfaces can get heels over, but the heel has to make the ass kicking believable.

Bless John Cena's heart, he tried to get a guy like Miz over as a heel, and Miz was just not there. It became highly retarded watching the tiny little guy beating up the mighty John Cena for minutes straight.

IDK, veering off here.

While it didn't last, HBK's heel turn versus Hogan is the last time I really remember marking out for a heel turn. I didn't see it coming and I jumped up and said "Holy shit!"

That was the last WWE event I went to. I was front row. It was incredible.

They used to be an integral facet of character development. Sadly, character development seems to have been a victim in recent times, at least for most guys outside of the main event. I want that big moment that catches me off guard, dammit. Perhaps many of us are just too cynical these days.

This would be a pretty huge moment. A lot of people think that Cena won't turn heel because of merch and all that, but the guy is like mid-thirties. If there was ever a time to turn him it is probably getting closer to that period in time. A desperate Cena that "needs" to beat The Rock sets that up pretty nicely.

A lot of people would probably hate this idea, but a face turn for CM Punk as a bad-ass that was right all along about Cena could work nicely as opposition for Cena and The Shield. Payback is in Chicago, where Punk will get a massive pop regardless of whether he is a face or a heel, so you might as well push Punk as a face for the event. You just have him look like a tough dude against Taker and make Taker look impressed by the fight Punk gives him.

Punk also has a lot of rivals that would make fresh challengers if he were a face. Punk was never really the star attraction during his face run in 2012, and it was still The John Cena Show. Punk also never really beat anybody besides Cena that was on that top level. In fact, he lost to Triple H.

Say CM Punk beats John Cena in the main event of Payback -- you can then do CM Punk vs. Triple H, provided that Triple H doesn't retire at WrestleMania (which I think would be a bad move). Maybe Triple H beats Lesnar and feels he's got "one more reign" left in him. Punk and Triple H can have an epic face vs. face match, which Punk wins. Perhaps Brock Lesnar doesn't like that Punk beat the guy that beat him at WrestleMania, and he goes after Punk. Heyman turns on Punk there, pushing the fans even further into Punk's corner and Brock becomes a four-time WWE Champion. Punk then gets his win back against Brock in a match that means something, perhaps in Hell in a Cell (we'd be around this point in the year) and is a four-time WWE Champion himself. Somewhere in there you can also do Punk vs. heel Orton if Randy's turned, with that WrestleMania loss being held over Punk's head.
