How do I enable WEP on a wireless internet connection?

Yeah, this is for the CREDOs, Vegas and Klepto Klowns out there.

My dad set up a wifi internet connection here in E-Town so that the pc and my dad and brother's laptops all run on the same internet connection. He's using a Linksys router and Windows XP Pro as the OS. I have no clue how to enable WEP to keep just anyone from leeching off our connection.

Help a brother out, guys.

I dunno but one time, I got into my neighbor's wireless network, and I could see his printers, so I printed out a bunch of porn and his 13 year old son got in big trouble hahaha

Wireless security is kinda an oxymoron.

Those basic wireless routers dont have a huge range, so unless you're in an apartment, or have close neighbours, its not really a huge deal.

Just to give you an idea how insecure "secure" wireless connections are. A hotel here recently spent 18,000 bucks to have a wireless connection in each hotel room. Its supose to be a secure connection, especially for clients who do business transactions and stuff...I can release/renew a 192.168 IP from my notebook in my car in their parking lot...

Chances are, you wont get any leecher. If your dad is really that concerned, tell him to hardwire the connection instead. Wireless security is nowhere near good enough yet.

I know that, but it'll at least keep the local kids with laptops from accessing the net on our tab.

Help me out here guys.

it will be in the config of the router somewhere.
under security, or wireless, or WLAN.

just choose what size key you want to use (128bit is good) and make up a string to go in the keybox. you can use any combination of letters and numbers. it's basically a password.

then you also have to setup the wireless cards on the computers with that key.
it's in the card's properties, under wireless networks.

First of all, there is WiFi and there is Wireless. I'm assuming you meant wireless, since setting up a WiFi connection would imply you are setting it up for everyone who uses a WiFi connection.

I'm not to good with wireless, my dad tried installing one at home while I am gone at college and couldn't get it to work so he said it is my "project" for when I get back. I could probably help you then.
