Saturday Night's Main Event
While Surfing YouTube I randomly stumbled onto some old Saturday Night's Main Events and it got me thinking... How awesome was this show? SO many amazing memories of my childhood growing up getting to watch this.
Moments that stick out to me... Forming of the Mega Powers after Hogan saves Savage from Honkey Tonk Man The Subsequent Falling Out of Mega Powers when Hogan carried Elizabeth to the back Andre winning the Title and giving to Million Dollar Man Vince and Jesse Ventura Commentating. Awesome stuff. Granted it came back in later years and was kind of a flop but what memories do you guys have of this show back in the day... Figured would put the last one I watched... This one happened just before WM 3 with Andre and Hogan involved in a Battle Royale. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It was so grand because back at the time you had all your WWF tv built around squash matches and feuds were only built through interviews, piper's pit, flower shop or updates.
this was when you got to see stars vs stars. even if it was tito Santana against the barbarian you knew they were bigger matches. not to mention the intro and theme were just very kick ass |

Yeah SNME was basically the equivalent of the non-Big 4 PPVs and was consistent awesome. The crowds were always hot as fuck too. Though even as a youngster the whole "main event level going on first" thing kinda confused me. I guess being Saturday night programming they wanted to pull you in at the beginning, but whatever the deal was, it was one of the most consistently awesome wrestling shows ever. I got hooked on the episode in 1990 where Hogan came back from getting sat on by Earthquake, Warrior wrestled Rude and Mr Perfect & Tito Santana had a great match.

Shawn Michaels capturing his first Intercontinental title from the British Bulldog on this show in November of 1992 is still my favorite memory of it.

The funny thing is that when I first heard Animotion's Obsession on the radio, for the longest time I couldn't place where I had heard it before. I knew it was on TV, tho.
Thanks for that memory ![]() |

I remember talking about this with friends when it happened. Doesn't Shawn win by reversing BB's second rope superplex into a cross body as BB sells his back injury ? Holy shit how did I remember that......Oh that's right I'm old.

Here's how it went down...
Early in the match, Shawn Michaels kept fiddling with the turnbuckle whenever the ref wasn't looking. Eventually, he removed the protective padding and casually placed it back over the metal while the match continued. The Bulldog proceeded to dominate for much of the match until eventually, Michaels Irish whipped Davey Boy into that 'exposed' turnbuckle, causing great damage to the back. Michaels exploited that injury, but Davey remained with the upperhand. For the finish, Davey was taking Michaels up for a superplex, but the damage to his back proved to be too much as it gave out and Michaels fell on top of him in a crossbody for the pin. So yes, you are correct. |

I talk about that match all the time on here. Love it. It's the first time I remember ever seeing the exposed turnbuckle spot.

Loved how important they used to make undercard hypes on this show. The Jake/Andre stuff was amazing here. |
