Oh yes, it is that time of the year where we talk about our favourite records that were released this year.
There are quite a few albums that I have yet to buy that were released this year, including those by Chris Thile/Edgar Meyer, Abigail Washburn/Bela Fleck, She & Him, Blonde Redhead, and Patricia Kopatchinskya, so I'm missing some choices. I think the album that stands out to me the most, other than Shakti's A Handful of Beauty, which was released in the 19070s (thus, ineligible), is Hilary Hahn's In 27 Pieces, which was released both in 2013 and 2014, in the US and UK respectively. One of those rare instances where a classical performer actually promotes contemporary classical music/composers, rather than just releasing a record of the same old tired repertoire. How about you guys? Feel free to name one or provide your top ten list. ![]() ![]() |
