Wrestlemania Trivia Question

Hello all, I was just watching Wrestlemania XX the other day & something's stumped me about it. Tazz & Cole said during the Angle - Guerrero match that if Eddie won, he would only be the 6th man to ever succesfully defend his title at Wrestlemania. That got me to thinking - who were the 5 others? This is who I've gotten so far:

1: Hulk Hogan- Kind of a moot point, it's the Hulkster after all. Defeated King Kong Bundy @ WM2, Andre the Giant @ WM3, & Sid Justice by DQ @ WM8.

2: Yokozuna: I know what you're thinking, but at WM10 Yoko did retain his title in a match with Lex Luger before dropping it to Bret Hart later in the night. It counts in the record books.

3: HHH: Defeated The Rock, Mick Foley, & Big Show @ WM16, & Booker T @ WM19. It's Heil Hunter, what else do you expect.

4: Eddie Guerrero: Defeated Kurt Angle @ WM20 in a Match of the Year candidate. IMO, that matchup is what you should look at if you want to find out how to psychologically play out a match.

Now, that's where it's stumped me. Who were the other 2 men? Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Firstly, Hogan wasn't champ at WM8 -Flair was and he dropped the title to Savage.
I think you might have got what they said a bit confused - it wasn't five men that have successfully retained the title, but the title being retained at 5 previous WM's prior to WM20.

The other time that the title has been retained which you don't know about (or forgotten) is when Diesel defeated HBK at WM11.

Lets run down all the past World Title Matches at Manias...

Maina 2 - Hulk DEFENDS against Bundy
Mania 3 - Hulk DEFENDS against Andre
Mania 4 - Title Tournament...Randy beat DiBiasie in the finals
Mania 5 - Savage LOSES to Hogan
Mania 6 - Hogan LOSES to Warrior
Mania 7 - Slaughter LOSES to Hogan
Mania 8 - Flair LOSES to Savage
Mania 9 - Hart LOSES to Yoko...Yoko LOSES to Hogan
Mania 10 - Yoko DEFENDS against Lugar...Yoko LOSES to Hart
Mania 11 - Deisal DEFENDS against HBK
Mania 12 - Hart LOSES to HBK
Mania 13 - Sid LOSES to Taker
Mania 14 - HBK LOSES to Austin
Mania 15 - Rock LOSES to Austin
Mania 16 - HHH DEFENDS against Rock, Foley, and Show
Mania 17 - Rock LOSES to Austin
Mania 18 - Jericho LOSES to HHH
Mania 19 - HHH DEFENDS against Booker...Angle LOSES to Lesnar
Mania 20 - Guerrero DEFENDS against Angle...HHH LOSES to Benoit (with HBK there as well)

So only 4 others have done it before (Hogan and HHH both doing it twice)...so either it has happend 6 times before or done by 4 people...but to say he was the 6th person to do it dosn't make sense by either acount. Anyway hope that helps to confirm that you are right.

Michael Cole and Tazz were referring to the WWE title when discussing about it being retained... they weren't including the World Heavyweight Championship. They said how the WWE title has been defended successfully on five occasions prior to the Eddie - Angle match, and the title has been defended 20 times at Wrestlemania.

Yeah I know - I'm just saying what Cole and Tazz said. The title wasn't defended at WM4 either because of the tournament they had for the belt, but it was defended twice at WM9 and WM10, making the WWE title being defended 20 times

Cole and Tazz seem to always get facts wrong.

I think they are used to a taped environment where those mistakes can be edited out.
