WWE Home Video Rant #2...

now I haven't bought or seen WWE: The Monday Night War yet, and I'm not sure I want to.

It's because one thing that's kind of irked me about the WWE home videos that include WCW footage (with the exception of perhaps the recent Ric Flair, Mick Foley, and Chris Benoit DVDs)...is the reinforcement of the one thing that irks me about Vince McMahon and WWE period... the (subtle) trashing of WCW.

I liked the nWo: Back In Black DVD, until it got to one point... spending too much time on the WWE side of nWo (luckily it was made before they fired Scott Hall and the angle died) versus the WCW version.

Why was it on the HHH DVD that we were robbed of seeing how HHH went from Terra Ryzing to Jean-Paul Leveque (the gimmick with which he was paired with Regal)? That's a part of HHH's history that's really shadowed. (Basically, the character was HHH's orignal WWE character with a messed up French accent...)

...I haven't seen the Stone Cold Truth yet, but hopefully it was in the same vein as Benoit's DVD (which was really good).

Even though Vince may not have thought much of WCW, the fans might think otherwise. Is WWE that afraid that people might see old WCW matches and actually wish they hadn't missed out on them in the mid-90s?

WCW is history. WWE owns all that is WCW now...the videos, the PPV names, the non-production music, etc...isn't that good enough?

I like WWE, but damn if they don't annoy me sometimes with this petty crap.

I don't think Vince's ego would allow him to admit that back when nWo was in its prime and WCW was the top dog, his federation was a shambles.

It'd be like wanting to publicly show ugly baby photos of your child next to a picture of another person's beautiful baby.

Just be grateful Vince finally decided to acknowledge wcw

It is made a little bit with kissing the WWE's ass in mind: THere are some scenes in there where wrestlers talk about how moving from WCW to WWE was like the Wizard of Oz (you go from black and white to full color and it's just wonderful) but other than that, there's a lot about how WCW had Vince by the balls. I'd recommend it.

for some of them (Benoit and Jericho especially) I think the Wizard of Oz allegory applies (esp. Benoit, he was getting screwed over, and kept talking trash on Hogan and others). But for others...no need for that.

I have both the NWO and Flair DVDs and I believe they show a progression in the WWE thinking as it relates to WCW.

The NWO DVD was ruined by their focus on the WWE side of things, I agree, the WWE tenure for NWO should have been like 5 mintues, and thats it. Instead they seemed to play down the WCW part of their run, which is rediculous.

With that in mind, I thought the Flair DVD would be similar and we'd see a ton of focus on Flair vs McMahon and the stuff Flair did in WWE when he came back.

Fortunately, it was hevailky focused on the WCW side of things, which is the way it shoudl be. So, I think now they have come to accept the fact they own the WCW footage and are using it to their advantage.

WCW WAS NOT trashed at all on the Monday Night Wars DVD. That DVD is my favorite wrestling DVD I own right now. The only person that came off like a prick was Gerald Brisco. Everyone just told it like it was. Even when the Screwjob was brought up, Foley made comments that McMahin screwed Hart.

Vince even admits on camera that noone really knew how close he was to calling it quits... or something to that effect. That, to me, is a HUGE step forward.

Well, now, if this is true, I might think about checking out the Monday Night War after all. I know some of you that have replied appreciated WCW for what it was (at its best, no-frills, sometimes innovative wrestling). I do, too... I had just watched that HHH DVD again (luckily, it was made before the blurring mandate) and nWo (which was one of my favorite DVDs for a minute, despite the WWE-heavy side of the video, and the lack of explaining how nWo degenerated)...and it reminded me of this little fact that Vince still finds a way to stick it to WCW even though it's done, finished, and he owns it all.
