wrestlers fined / Renee told to stop Dancing

Arn Anderson has become the wrestlers’ favorite road agent. The guys love to work with him when they put matches together because Arn knows the psychology very well and really helps the workers get over with the fans. Dean Malenko isn’t exactly beloved backstage, however, stemming from the match he put together for Rhyno which prompted Vince McMahon to crash and put a stop to it right in front of a crowd in Nassau County Coliseum.

John Hedienriech reportedly through a fit after his match with Scotty 2 Hotty at the 8/22 Bakersfield show. John missed a couple spots during the match, so at the end he was furious and cursed up a storm on his way backstage. He rearranged the backstage area a bit right in front management, and they did not take a liking to such behavior at all.

Rey Mysterio, Johnny Stamboli and Mark Jindrak were fined for being late to the 8/22 house show in Bakersfield, CA.

SmackDown’s Rene Dupree is in hot water with management right now. He was fined recently for doing his trademark dance during a match.

Management has told him to stop doing the dance because it’s starting to get a “face’s pop” but they want to push him as a heel.

In addition to working a couple a of sub par matches (in management’s eyes), Dupree continues to fuel the flames.

If they fined Rene for doing his dance, I guess Flair must be in line for a bunch of fines because his wooo's his face bump and his struts always get huge babyface pops, yet he's supposed to be part of the lead heel faction in the company. So looks like Flair's wallet will be much lighter. Unless there is a double standard......

I've always wondered, since Vince has often admitted to not knowing a damn thing about wrestling, why the hell he feels he should call shots like that. That's why he hires bookers, isn't it?

It's not a double standard... Ric Flair can quell all of his babyface reactions with equally good, if not better, heel reastions. Dupree isn't old enough or good enough to quell babyface reactions with equal heel reatctions, he's just not good enough of a ring worker yet. Another diffrence is that when Flair wrestles and talks on the mic he does both really well. Dupree is thought of by management as putting on poor, lazy matches.

Also you have to realize that Rene Dupree has been looked at as pompus jerk in the eyes of most people in the WWE. He thinks he deserves a lot more from the buisness then he has yet to earn, where as Flair has earned the right to be vocal backstage because he's a legend in the buisness. They want Rene to learn early that when they tell him to do something he damn well better do it. But Dupree insists on doing his stupid dance, thus being totally unprofessional in the ring. The Flair has done a lot of unprofessional things on planes and backstage before, he is always 100% professional when he's in the ring. Flair earned the ring to do with his character what he wants, Rene hasn't.

Perhaps it is a double standard, but it is a legit double standard.

Your talking about a green rookie and one of the three greatest wrestlers of all time, as if the should be equal? They're not. When Rene is in the buisness for over 20 years and has won the World Championship 16 times, and carried a whole wrestling promotion on his back, then he and Flair should be looked at as equals... Until then Flair can chop, strut, and wooo all he wants, because his name draws... As for Dupree, his name is worthless in the wrestling buisness right now, so he should learn to do as he's told, because the last thing we need is another out of control ego in the wrestling buisness.

In closing....

Flair has earned his right to do as he pleases in the ring... Dupree has not.

That was some marky shit right there.

Who cares what Flair has done in the PAST? This 2004 not 1984.

Look at one of his matches, the crowd is totally into him as a babyface and he does nothing to stop it. And even if he tries to do something like insult someone in the crowd he still gets cheered. If he was such a great superstar and he was such a professional he would stop doing the trademark things that get cheers and focus on being a heel. So you say he "can" quell the responses, but the FACT is he doesn't.

My point with Rene, as others have pointed out, is that its a stupid thing to ask of him because it will hurt his ability to get over. Rock did the People's Elbow for a long time, and yeah it got cheers, but he still managed to be an effective heel. This is just a case of the company handing out punishment for no good reason other than to show a rookie his place. Of course that mentality has ensured that they have been unable to create a new superstar who can draw in the last 4 years.

BTW, Flair doesn't draw any money anymore, if you think he does you've lost your mind.

Heel wrestlers can still get cheered (HHH, Angle, etc.) so I don't know why Vince is being so stupid about the dance that everyone loves. It is entertaining, and he does it in the middle of his matches, so I don't think that the dance alone will cause the crowd to think of him as a face. Let the dancing continue Vince!

Thats the thing, I mean think back to the Attitude days, part of what helped them was that they didn't have these rigid lines for babys and heels. Guys liek DX would do kinda heelish things and guys like Rock would do things that would get cheered. The WWE didn't try to stop it, instead, all they cared was that fans were reacting and getting into the characters. Hey if the fans want to cheer Rane, let them. If he keeps getting cheered, just turn him face, whats the big deal?

Its kinda like with the signs, remember when you could bring whatever signs you wanted (as long as they were TV friendly). Now signs get taken away for dumb reasons. All that stuff makes it less fun to attend a WWE event, and big shock, fewer people show up. Just let the people cheer what they want, this isn't an opera!

Reason #192904 that the WWE has lost their minds and no longer cares for logical actions.

I almost hope they'll continue down this road and run out of business completely. Those workers deserve a lot better.

If Hulk Hogan were in the WWE, he'd say:

"Is this your deal, Vince? That's why the company's in the damn shape it's in, because of bullshit like this"....

That's a fair point and all, but I still think Flair has earned his rights to do as he pleases, where as Rene hasn't...

By the way...
Flair doesn't draw money anymore... He does draw money, just not a lot of it... I guarentee that if you put Dupree at the top of a card up, he wouldn't even be close to drawing as much as Flair could in the same position.

I just think it's stupid that people are getting upset at the WWE stopping a guy from doing a stupid dance. Who cares if he dances or not?

I suppose what I say doesn't matter anyway, because people just like to go along with the status quo, so saying stuff like Dupree sucks, and Flair has earned rights other wrestlers haven't, it basically like me killing a puppy around here.

yeah, I read about this last week. It's really dumb to ask him to stop using his dance. That's his schtick right there. When I watch a Dupree match (And I like Dupree) I am waiting for the spot where he does the dance and I bet a lot of the audience is. That's something that can get him over. If he's getting cheered, then turn him babyface. You didn't see the WWE take away Cena throwing up the mic to the crowd when they were suppossed to say "Shit" "Fuck" or whatever when he was a heel. That got face reactions too.

You're wrong about Flair. If Flair were to leave the company today, business would be exactly the same, no better no worse. Flair is never put in a position to draw money, so its impossible to say he draws a little bit or a lot of money. Maybe if he was headlining you could say he's a draw, but he isn't so you cant say he is a draw (correctly anyway).

And you made my point by saying "who cares if he dances or not?" Thats the point right there. The WWE shouldn't care if he dances, as long as it gets a reaction why stop him from doing it? People are still going to boo him because he acts like an ass, carries around a poodle and waves a French flag. And again, just turn him baby if thats what the fans want.

You right that the WWE will do the exact same buisness that they would with or with out Flair... I'm just saying that Flair is a bigger name the Dupree. When you put it the way you did about how the WWE shouldn't care, I guess you got a point there, in a perfect world they should really back off and let the guys do there thing. From everything I've heard Dupree is an arrogant jerk backstage, and I think that maybe if the use this "control" of his character as a way of making him be a bit more humble backstage, it'll be a good thing. Kinda like they say, "If your going to be a jerk then were going to keep taking away certian rights. If you start being a better team player then you can have it back." It's a good way of using negitive re-enforcment. Like I said in an earlier post Dupree has a lot of promise but if he ends up being another glory hog pain in the ass, it's not worth it.

But all and all, you convinced me of what you were saying Cynick
