Could my motherboard be the problem??

So I am built my own computer, which was stupid, and now it isn't working right. I have a AMD 2800xp, 512mb of ram, and a ATI Radeon 9600xt graphics card all on a Soyo motherboard. When I go to play games the screen wacks out and I get all these crazy colors and shapes.

In Farcry the game acts normal untill in gets to a cut scene, then it messes up. Sometimes some textures just look like blobs of random colors.

In Battlefield Vietnam the game gets all sorts of strange lines on the screen and then crashes.

I have replaced the graphics card but the problem is still evident. Could the motherboard be faulty or do you think it is something else?

Get the latest graphic card drivers. That seems to be the problem. Your mobo wouldn't effect that, if you got everything in and working. Sounds like a card problem.

Any chance you can get the model number of the Soyo motherboard? I'm looking through Google for you and I've seen people mention how they love playing Far Cry on their system with one of their motherboards

Hm, just found something. AGP 8x doesn't work very well in ALL Soyo motherboards. Go into the BIOS setup, find some AGP settings and knock it down to 4x and you should be alright.

From what i read somewhere, it said that this board doenst supply enough power for AGP 8X

Did that work by the way? I've got a friend who just got that motherboard and is having the same problem. I've gotta go down and fix it in 2 days.

Well the whole problem turned out to be my fault. I wasn't able to work on it till last night.

The drivers that are supplyed with my motherboard caused all these "Delayed Write Failed" errors when I installed it the first time. The only way I could think to get rid of these errors was to start over and reformat.

When I started rebuilding the system I didn't install all the drivers for the motherboard and I never got those errors but this was causing the graphics card problem. Last night I installed the drivers again and again was flooded with the errors. I started the computer up in safe mode and changed some settings in:

Control Panel -> Advnaced -> Performance Settings -> Advance

Once I switched both settings to program the errors stopped and the graphics card worked great.

I was just playing around with some of the settings for the graphics card and switching between 4x and 8x makes a big difference in stability
