Star Wars Battlefront

I've been looking into getting this game. Looks pretty cool. Supposedly it's like Battlefield 1942 but...in the Star Wars galaxy. Now, I've never played BF so that is one of my reservations (I'm more into Medal of Honor). I also haven't played an entertaining SW game since Shadows of the Empire on N64.

And now that MOH: Pacific Assualt has been pushed back to November, I'm looking into getting this. Comes out same day as Star Wars on DVD, Sept. 21st.

Anyways, anyone else know if this game is supposed to be any good/planning on getting it?

And shepherds we shall be,
for thee my lord for thee.
Power hath decended forth from thy hand
so our feet may swiftly carry out thy command.
And we shall flow a river forth to thee
and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.

I've played a MOD for BF1942 that is set in the Star Wars galaxy.

It was alright but I'm not really into Star Wars so I can't give a good opinion about it. The MOD is called "Galactic Conquest" if you ever want to look it up.

I just rented Battlefront this week, and I am totally blown away. I've started a Clone Wars campaign, and made it through the Naboo levels easily, but am getting my ass hammered on Geonosis. I don't remember the clone troopers being such pussies in the movie.

Anyway, it's so much fun. My one big complaint is the repetitive voice work ("Destroy the enemy ships. Make sure the enemy ships are destroyed. Destroy the enemy ships!"), but other than that, the sound is great. The controls are responsive, and each weapon feels different. I was getting pretty good as the Droid Sniper on Naboo, but can't quite get the hang of sniping as a clone. Those damned droidekas...

I hear it's pretty good but not like BF as much as everyone thought. Tickets aren't given like they are in BF games, so if one team captures all the bases, it's over. I'm about to install it for PC and give it a try though so I'll be able to talk more hands on with it.

I finished the "Historical Campaign" mode, and just swept through the first "Galactic Conquest." I could play this game for days straight, seriously. I wish I had a network adapter (and owned the game and didn't have to return it to Hollywood Video tomorrow).

I just finished playing it and I must say, it is to the Star Wars mass battle sequences what KOTOR is to the Jedi/Sith conflict. Or Rogue Leader is to the dog fights. I haven't played on XBox Live; but if playing the computer is any indication, it must be a blast. Granted the bots aren't Halo smart, they're just smart enough. And there's enough action going on in battle to make you think you're in something big. I'd call it a interactive RTS with a dose of chess. And I rather play a game like this in the Star Wars world than the boring real world style.

Avoid Jedi and Sith at all cost.

I don't know. It's always either too slow or too fast. The maps with vehicles in them are too small for such fast vehicles. Well the flying ones at least. It's pretty fun if you're a huge Star Wars fan but the Battlefield series is much better in terms of a shooter game.

If it was possible to fly around with more characters without the terrible weapons then it would be more entertaining but when I have to run, in what seems like slow motion, to one place to the next it's a pain.

The online mode sucks so much it shouldn't be a selling point to anyone who's looking for the game. It is nearly impossible to go in to a room because it updates every second with more rooms, rather then taking a shot and giving you time to select it. So if you're see a room you want you better double click in literally less then a second to get in or you'll have a hard time finding it again. And when you do you better click again or you'll go through the process all over again.

I'd give it a 6.7/10 for a casual fan and probably an 8.6/10 for a Star Wars fan.

Gotta agree with DS. I hated it. I hate Star Wars mind you, but I do love some Star Wars games like KOTOR and the old X-Wing games and stuff.

As a game, it's piss-poor

Piss poor? I love this game.

The massive ground battles are ridiculously detailed and realistic, not to mention extremely fun. I could seriously play this game for hours on end. With all the laser blasts whizzing by your head, explosions going off, and huge ass AT-AT's and AT-ST's walking around fucking shit up, it makes for such an intense atmosphere.

Rented it for Xbox. I like it but...have some problems. I feel like I'm running so slow. Trying to get anywhere is a pain. It pisses me off. The controls are a bit...odd, IMO. I think for me it'd be easier to control on PC, which is the system I've planned on buying it for.

Also, I wish there was a radar on screen cuz I was in Mos Eisley and it took me forever to find the battle after I died.

Overall, it's fun and I am still contemplating on a PC purchase, but not sure if it's worth it yet.

Detailed? Plain would be the word you're looking for. As for realistic...it's Star Wars. Like I said, if you're a fan then it's fun but other then that it's just boring and simple.

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is a much better game. Much better but without vehicles.

Jedi Knight isn't offering the same experience; it's clearly geared toward fans of the Jedi/Sith angle in Star Wars. Star Wars is the type of licence you want to apply to several different types of games to appeal to the most fans. Star Wars "Racing", Star Wars "RPG", Star Wars "Action Adventure". Comparing one Star Wars game to another isn't the way to go about it. Because in that case, KOTOR knocks all the others out of the water. Besides, we need more multiplayer focused games instead of games with an attached multiplayer. Like Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

I compared those two because they were both combat games. KOTOR is an RPG. Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy had a great multiplayer, in fact that was the best part about it. It may have singled it to two classes, but even then it's level were much more impressive, the you could use more weapons then just guns, and the gameplay was much smoother.

The key to winning Hoth as the rebels is to get someone or yourself to the farthest enemy post; AFTER the AT-ST and AT-AT's leave. Even with an elaborate radar, you can sneak behind enemy lines. Take that post and close in the Empire. Taking outside post is a good tactic for most levels. As the Empire, use the AT-AT's 'mouth cannons' to clear out the southern Rebel Post to get you guys in easier. Make sure the main Rebel Base is the last post you after, with Stormtroopers coming from the caves as well as AT-ST's coming at the entrance.
