Unhappy Patterson gives WWE his notice

Patterson recently told Vince McMahon he believed Triple H was pushed too strongly as the center of the RAW universe and that relying too heavily on Triple H is one of the problems that has caused ratings and house show drops in recent months.

A WWE source tells us Patterson has given his notice to Vince McMahon and plans to retire after 46 years in the wrestling business.

McMahon is known to surround himself with "yes men" who will tell him what they think he wants to hear. Patterson isn't a "yes man" and speaking his mind about the Triple H situation sparked tension that apparently has prompted Patterson's decision to retire."
This is stupid on Vince's part. He's losing one great booker.

On another note, this explains why Jim Cornette is not a backstage booker. I think he would be awesome in the role, but he's definitely not a "yes man".

(Makes me wonder, too, if this is why Paul Heyman's not booking, either....)

Yeah. Jim Cornette books pretty much whatever he wants in OVW. He wouldn't have that liberty in WWE.

That sucks for Patterson though. WWE is losing a good guy, but I guess he deserves a good retirement 46 years.

With Patterson, Prichard and others now out of the picture, maybe Vince will learn what it's like to lose out on having great people working with you. I'd like to see a smart move on TNA's part and offer Pat a part-time role with their company, as he does have a place in FL, and wouldn't be far away.

This is horrible!

Right now, Vince should be seriously considering any and all ideas to bring WWE product back up to the stellar performance it is capable of. I hope this is one of those internet news stories that turns out not to be true.

This is why Vince needs competition. His "yes men" can't kick him in the ass and make him take notice... but a competitor beating him in the ratings can.

Maybe, but most of us see it like this:

Someone on the booking team actually had the cojones to go against what's been wrong for the the past couple of years. He pinpoints the big reason why the ratings were down ... and next second he's out the door.

Which means ... they guy replacing him will most likely be someone who thinks Vince's next idea is "Brilliant!" This sends a bad message too, to any of the remaining bookers that if you don't agree with Vince McMahon, then your ass is grass.

True, El Santo, but this is exactly what they need: Vince let's several good non-yesman people go, they go to a rival company (TNA), their product gets better, their ratings go up (not likely but it would be great if it did) and WWE feels the heat.

It'll take a while, but if it goes down that way, it'll force the WWE to get better.

You know, I think people put too much weight on Vince. I don't think he's the one making all the bad decisions.

wow, pretty bad if a guy who's suppossed to be one of Vince's closest freinds gets heat for offering his advice on why the products down. And it's not even like it's crazy advice or something. Yeah, cause a booking team where everyone agrees with one guy is going to go places.

Patterson and Pritchard should just go to TNA and do whatever they can to improve the product over there and stick it right to Vince.

Well, news like this sort of makes me wish Vince continues to fuck up so badly that he loses a huge amount of money and becomes a wrestling disgrace.

That's just some grade A bullshit there. Sucks for Patterson, but I'm sure he'll find something to do. Plus, he's been around for a long time. He deserves a retirement I guess.

TNA really needs to become the next WCW (in terms of competition with WWE)

that'll make both products so much better, it's obvious vince isn't trying hard cuz he thinks he has a monopoly... that thought seriously needs to be taken away, all jokes aside, it's seriously getting really ridiculous

^^Actually, TNA is much like the WWE in booking. They don't listen to everyone eathier. It's almost exactly like WWE where you have two main guys (Jarrett and Mantel) and they just book everything themselves usually. That's why Russo left/is leaving.

It's sad because TNA has Terry Taylor, but he said on a radio show the other WEEK that they don't use him for booking and creating storylines. Taylor has a great mind for the business much like Patterson.
