So yesterday I was installing Norton Anti Virus, and mid way through the installation it said there was an error in the configuration, and the download stopped. I figured it was because I was on the internet or something, so I tried restarting my computer, but when it restarted it had some message like VMOUSE YES/NO or something, then another similar message, then it said I need to reconfigure my Windows or something. I tried booting it up from the D drive (Norton) but it said there were no virus's. I dont know what I do next, and damnit this is gonna kill me, did I lose all of my files?

Well, try booting Windows in safe mode and then try to kill VxDs that was recently installed. VxDs that are loaded on system startup can be found in registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD Another way is to boot up Windows in step-by-step confirmation mode (hold Right Ctrl key during system bootup and in startup menu choose step-by-step confirmation). System will process your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files (if any) and then asks you if you wish to load all Windows drivers. Answer Yes, then Windows will prompt you to load each driver. Here you can try not to load some drivers in order to find which one spoils everything. Then remove it from the registry. This should work. |

Btw, Norton sucks. Try Panda Anti-virus.

Panda Antivirus had viruses in it, don't download it.
