My 100 Favorite Songs of All Time: 100-91

So yeah, I did this a long fucking time ago on these boards, like September 2001, 3 days before 9-11, anyways, I decided to do it again, now that TPWW is a little more accepting of other forms of music that aren't rock.

So, I'll start you guys off with the bottom 10 in the countdown, and I'll do about one every two or three days. In addition to a description of the song, I will list the approximate date that I first heard the song. To get on my countdown, the song has to pass a "honeymoon period", meaning that after I overplay the song, I can still listen to it with almost the same amount of enthusiasm (or just as much) as I did when I was first digging the song. So let's start.

100. Filter- Hey Man, Nice Shot (Probably 1996, or whenever the song first came out): Even though I first heard it a long time ago, I didn't really start listening to it again until the movie "Behind Enemy Lines" came out (that was the song they would play as background music for the movie trailer). The guitar is very nice in this song, and it's got a killer chorus- probably one of the best choruses (for me, at least) in rock music. When I was working on this countdown, I initially had this song up as high as like 61 or something, and then I had it off the countdown completely, but it snuck back on there.

99. Nirvana- Rape Me (whenever In Utero came out- '94? '93?): Yeah, this song is pretty tight. Interesting lyrics. Always been a fan of Nirvana. Not much else to say.

98. Moby- Porcelain (late 2000, early 2001, whenever The Beach came out): This song is really the first instrumental song I ever really heard, and ever since, I've been a big fan of instrumental music. Very orgasmic melody. Other than Porcelain, I think Moby is basically a piece of shit and a pussy douchebag. But that didn't stop me from putting Porcelain on this countdown.

97. Soundgarden- Black Hole Sun (1993): I damn near forgot about this song. Shit, this was one of the first rock songs I ever heard. Definitely a classic song, and it has one of the best music videos for it of all time. Classic music video, great song earns this one a spot. Man, I wish Soundgarden would get back together. They were what good rock was about, not this bullshit that gets put out today. I could go on all day about that, but I'll stop myself here. On to #96.

96. Metallica- Enter Sandman (1996): The riff in this song is the shit and the song has surprisingly decent lyrics for Metallica (better than their "Madly in Anger with you" and "my lifestyle determines my deathstyle" bullshit). This song is the definition of badass.

95. Krayzie Bone- Thug Mentality (1999): It's not necessarily that the song has great lyrics (I mean, they aren't bad, but I've heard better), it's just that the song has a great beat and I just love Krayzie Bone's voice. Beautiful, beautiful voice he has for rapping. I love the chorus in this song as well. Saw the music video once, but I forgot what it was about- besides the fact that it took place in the ghetto, or something like that.

94. Tupac- Hit 'Em Up (2001): Yeah, I first heard this song a few years after it came out, but it is probably the 2nd-best diss song of all time. Hard-hitting and very nice shit-talking. The only thing that takes away from this song is the Tupac's cronies take up a verse or two, and they, for the most part, aren't on point with Tupac on this one, but they still spit some hot fire. You can just tell that there was true anger behind this song, not some bullshit like 50 Cent's "Piggy Bank" (though I do like that song, it was done only for publicity).

93. RJD2- Smoke and Mirrors (April 2003): The melody to this song is, well, amazing. It's an instrumental- with hip-hop and electronic influences, for those of you who are wondering. RJD2 is a producer who also pops out CDs of his instrumentals. And, like every good instrumental song, the vocal samples are insane. The first 30 seconds are a little slow, but after that, it just picks up steam and keeps on going.

92. Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony- 1st of Da Month (1999): Yeah, individually, these guys aren't the best, but when you put them together, they are the shit. Their chemistry is unbelievable, and the chorus is tight, the beat is nice, and the song is just overall sickness. Wake up, wake up....

91. Afromedusa- Pasilda (2002): For those wondering, this is a Latin House song, and a very good one at that. Shit, I don't listen to House or Dance or any Electronica to dance, I listen to it because I like the melodies, and the melody on this one is very nice. But what puts this song over the top and into the Top 100 is the Spanish vocals. The singing is very nice, and it goes well with the melody.

Ok, that's it for now. Here's a list of honorable mentions that did not make the list as of now, but might make the list in the future.

*K-OS- The Love Song
*Reks- Science of Life II ft. Alius
Metallica- Don't Tread on Me
Diverse ft. Mos Def- Wylin' Out
Mos Def- Travellin' Man
Alicia Keys- Fallin'
RJD2 and Copywrite- June
Canibus- Genabis
Canibus- Showtime at the Gallows
Canibus- Indibisible
Aesop Rock- Daylight
Mojo- Lady
Nirvana- Come as you Are
RJD2 and Blueprint- Final Frontier
Canibus, Ol Kainry, Tandem- Douleurs Communes

*-Song will definitely make countdown at some point; they just haven't been heard for long enough. They've more or less passed the honeymoon period, but they still need a few more months.

Pretty cool idea, I wonder if I could narrow it down to 100.

Be my guest, AssMan, but I suppose you should make your own thread for it- see what we have in common (if any). Oh, and I will put up #s 90-81 sometime tomorrow afternoon or night.

Assman was just being an ass, man. That sounds corny as hell, but really he just thinks his taste in music is better than everyone's here.. don't bother.
