Nacho Libre


Ain't it Cool News has scored an exclusive trailer for Nacho Libre, a comedy by Napoleon Dynamite helmer Jarad Hess that deals with the wacky world of Mexican pro wrestling.

Jack Black stars as a cook living at a Mexican monastery, who joins a local lucha libre tournament to keep the religious institution from falling into financial ruin and allow the resident orphans to continue living there. He dons the luchadores' distinctive mask to become the wrestling hero Nacho.

Like the United States' pro wrestling circuit, lucha libre ("free-style fighting") is a theatrical sport pitting wrestlers against one another in a ring. The sport was imported from the U.S. in the 1930s where the tradition of wearing distinctive masks was also born. Today, there are a number of popular lucha libre circuits in Mexico, Japan and the U.S.

Hess has a substantial cult following for his quirky feature debut Napoleon Dynamite (2004). He co-wrote the follow-up with his wife Jerusha and The School of Rock writer Mike White. Top Hollywood stunt coordinator Nick Powell (Annapolis, Cinderella Man) has overseen the wrestling action.

Paramount Pictures has scheduled Nacho Libre for release in the U.S. on June 2nd.

i read about this last year. It's "supposed" to make wrestling look bettter than what Ready to Rumble did
