Most Disappointing Matches
What matches were you really looking forward to, and ended up being disappointed?
Mine would be Goldberg vs Brock from WM XX. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Although it wasn't a bad match - Angle/Michaels from Vengeance was a let down. They set the bar so high at Wrestlemania that they couldn't top themselves.

Goldberg and Brock... Probably the biggest let down of all time.

See I had no expectations for that to be anything about terrible. Brock was never as great as people give him credit for, and let's face facts Billy boy's best match was against DDP and even that was not all that great. Personally for me the biggest let down for a match was Ric Flair vs. Hulk Hogan from Bash at the Beach 1994. Flair wasn't on his game, Hogan was blah, the ending was terrible AND predictable, it was nothing historic which is a shame because it could have been the biggest match of all time.

Sounds weird huh? But even I can't argue that Hogan doesn't bring a certain atmosphere to the ring, and for that match it was pure blah. I was hoping to have the match's pace and story telling be done by Flair and let the "This is the biggest thing ever" be brought in by Hogan. Both the pacing and the atmosphere were dull at best.

Agreed. That was the first WCW PPV I ever bought, and I remember (even at age 11) being disappointed by how dull it was.
The undercard was pretty hot, though. Steve Austin vs. Ricky Steamboat? Johnny B. Badd vs. Steven Regal? Awesome. |

Goldberg vs. Kevin Nash - WCW World Championship Match - Nitro
Goldberg had lost the WCW Title and his undefeated streak to Nash at Starrcade, thanks to the infamous cattle prod from Scott Hall. The re-match was built up for a few weeks for Nitro, and when Goldberg was "arrested" early on in the evening, it was decided that the returning Hulk Hogan would face Nash for the belt instead. Hogan pokes Nash. Nash goes down for the 1-2-3 and we have a new champion. |

It had a fantastic build-up, featured arguably the two best wrestlers of the early-to-mid 90s, and it was a period when the SummerSlam PPV was on a streak of fantastic I-C title matches (1990: Perfect vs Tornado= short but hot while it lasted, 1991: Perfect vs Hart= classic, 1992: Bulldog vs Hart= classic.) But the match itself was mediocre and the finish was an insult. Last edited by NeanderCarl; 07-23-2006 at 11:19 PM. |

Actually...the Brock/Goldberg match wasn't that dissapointing to me. I knew it was going to be utter crap, and it was.
For me...the match that dissipointed me the most was Matt Hardy/Edge at Summerslam 05. What a fucking peice of crap that was. |

The Undertaker VS Yokozuna, casket match.
When it takes all of the hells on the roster to take out one guy, it's pretty.... lame. Back in the day I loved it, but looking at it again they could have done more. Bret Hart vs HBK, SS '97 No, it's not a matter of "BRET GAWT SKREWWWED!!! OMFG!!!! ![]() |

Yeah most of that SS 97 match was fought on the outside. And I believe the match itself in the ring lasted only 8-10 minutes I believe. HBK admitted himself the match was horrible.

We all should have known it was over for Matt Hardy when he jobbed the first grudge match between the two after a fucking corner post shot to the face. Like we don't see that in every other match. And don't even start with the whole "well he was bleeding profusely" bullshit. Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels bleed harder than Hardy was on a regular basis, and they never lose matches from it. Fuck all. |

Hogan/Sting Starcade 1997 was pretty craptacular
Hogan/Warrior 2 as well, not that I expected a great match but I did expect something better than Horace Hogan lol helping Hogan win. |

How could I forget this one? It was probably going to be the single biggest money maker in WCW history, and even more so, it was the most highly billed PPV of all time since it was taking place during the hottest period wrestling had ever seen (nWo). First, the card sucked altogether. You'd think that after a full year of promoting the WCW vs. nWo angle they would have booked Starrcade as the biggest show of all time. It went down like this: -Eddie Guerrero def. Dean Malenko for the Cruiserweight Title in an awesome opener -Scott Hall comes out and calls off the Nash/Giant Match; one of the only highly billed matches on the card. -Vincent, Scott Norton and Macho Man Randy Savage def. The Steiner Brothers & Ray Traylor in a boring affair. -Goldberg def. Steve McMichael in 6 minutes; the usual Goldy-smash. -Perry Saturn def. Chris Benoit in an awesome match. -Buff Bagwell def. Lex Luger at a craptacular 17 minutes -DDP def. Curt Hennig for the US Title in an OK match. -Larry Zybyzsko def. Eric Bischoff for Control of WCW Nitro in a shit-fest. Then you had the main event, which was really one of the only reasons anyone bought the damn thing in the first place (with exception of the Nash vs. The Giant match, which was cancelled at the last second). Not only did the match between Hogan and Sting NOT live up to expectations, but Sting, who hadn't wrestled in over a year and was finally making his return, was beaten up and down for the duration of the match. Then, to make matters worse, Hogan hit the Legdrop on Sting and covered for a very decisive 1-2-3, which totally pissed off everybody. In a lame finish, Bret Hart, who had just jumped ship to WCW, came in to restart the match on the basis of a "quick count" (even though everyone watching saw that it was a normally paced 3 count), and with himself as the referee. Sting then rallied up, hit the Deathdrop and put in the Scorpion Deathlock, which led to Bret Hart calling for the bell, despite Hogan never actually tapping out. What this did was made Sting, who was really the only main event face they had left, look like a joke. The one man who everyone wanted to watch beat the holy shit out of Hogan and cast down the nWo, was pinned clean in the main event, then won the belt despite not actually "winning" the match. What this really did was lead to the end of WCW. |
