I didn't think so. I mean, growing up in Minnesota, when I was a kid I went to Twins, Vikings, Gophers, Wolves, and Wild games and our local news covered Twins, Vikings, Gophers, Wolves, Wild, and Packers. It wouldn't really make sense for me to be big fans of other teams, would it?
Well for some reason people just can't get over that I thought Doug Mientkiewicz and Corey Koskie were better fielders than John Olerud and Eric Chavez. I still stand by my opinion there, and anyone who strongly thinks otherwise hasn't seen the two play enough to have a legitimate opinion. I thought I cleared this up a while ago, but I still get shit in the most random posts from the most random people about it. The people who give me the most shit are the people who are the most biased for their teams themselves. Yash, The Miz, Loose Cannon, CNM, and some other guy who made a comment followed by [\yash, wadding, etc] How desperate can you get? Since the initial incident, I havent acted like a "mark," and on numerous occasions have pointed out weaknesses in my favorite teams and pointed out teams that are better. I have never said that the Twins are a better team than the Yankees or the Red Sox, but people talk shit to me like I have. I stand strong that at least one of those guys should have won a Gold Glove, that Kevin Garnett should win MVP this year, and that the T-Wolves have a very good chance at winning the whole NBA. I do not think the Twins are going to win 100 games this season, I do not think the Wild are going to make it to the Stanley Cup semi-finals again, I do not think that Latrell Sprewell should have been an all-star. Not only that, if you looked in a recent thread asking what teams we were fans of, I said that I was a Miami Dolphins, Ottawa Senators, and New York Mets fan, along with being fans of most of my hometown teams. I just find it hypocritical that guys who are bandwagon fans of winning teams 1,000 miles from their houses are talking shit to me. I now speak totally rationally about my teams and don't insult other people for having passionate opinions about their teams. So in conclusion, I would appreciate it if you posters who find it neccessary to stereotype me would actually read into my posts and understand my opinions before taking old and boring cheapshots at me for liking the teams I grew up with. Thank you. Dont Mess With Kids Last edited by BCWWF; 02-16-2004 at 02:35 AM. |

I find it more weird than anything else when people support teams they have zero connection with over local teams. But hey, free world after all. And it's hard to support crappy local teams.

I've liked the Yanks since the 80's. I was a huge fan of Donnie Baseball, which obviously makes you root for that team. I live in CT, so it's not like i'm 1000 miles away. And besides, the Yankees sucked from the early 80's till 93, so nobody can say i jumped on the bandwagon. I suffered through ridicule when the Yanks sucked, and now i get to brag. I deserve it to brag now.

i live in canada but, i live 30 minutes from detroit. i hate all detroit teams, but i'm loyal to some tToronto teams. I'm hardcore Leafs and Blue Jays. I'm a pats fan. I started liking them when i first got Techmo bowl and they were the worst team in the game, so i started liking them. I'm a Utah Jazz fan because I've always loved Karl Malone The raptors came into the league after I became a Jazz fan.

WTF, how am I biased? My posts are usually based on fact like I just said in the other thread. The only time I may sound biased is when I'm kidding around with those who like the Red Sox.

I go for the locals. I dont care if they suck. It means more to me.
For example: Spurs, Cowboys, Astros Spurs are obviously my favorite. Cowboys come second even though they are far but they are in Texas. I dont care much for baseball but I will just go for the Astros for the hell of it. |

LOL you are such a pussy.
of course i lvoe and root for my home teams, but i don't act like they're the greatest show on earth. i know the sonics blow. i don't care, i still love them. there's a difference between being a die-hard fan and being biased. die-hard fan = watching and rooting on the vikings in every game. biased = claiming the vikings are the best team in the NFL, which they aren't. also cry about it |

I don't see what the big deal is.
Granted, I'm not an avid poster in this forum, and I don't treat sports like a religion. I pretty much only follow local teams, and don't get my panties in a knot when someone doesn't like my team. |

I have and always will be an avid fan of the Packers. Disappointing as it may be at times, I'll always root for them. The rest of the sports group from around here, meh. I could care less.

I started supporting Liverpool when I was about 4, when they won the league, but I've supported them for the last 13 years, regardless. I started supporting Torquay when I really started to get into football, when I was about 9, and still support them now. Liking your hometown isn't mandatory, but I think you should get behind them as much as you can, especially when times are tough (in the example of lower league football clubs)

My mum used to live a mile away from the ground, and my dad supported Chelsea,
so thats why me and my two brothers support them. They are not local, its about an hours drive to the ground, but the reason my parents supported Chelsea were because they were local at the time. I look out for my local teams footy results, any other sport I really couldn't give two squirts of piss what the team does. |

Nothing wrong with supporting local teams imo.
I've grown up in Leicester, about 20 mins away from the ground. My dad was a fan and knew a few players from the 70s and 80s(apparantly when Gary McAllister played for us he asked my dad to be his agent, not sure if i believe that though). I don't see many matches because i don't really have anyone to go with,my dad normally just says that he wouldn't waste his money going to see the current team and most of my friends aren't as bothered about football or support other teams. When i can drive i'll go down more often though. |
