Are you glad that more games are going multiplatform?
POLL
This is in regards to the FF topic. I think its a great thing. First of all, it means that if more than one company are going to get the same games, its all going to come down to customer support and which system can boost the best features. It'll be kinda like the Monday night wars in wrestling. Basically, we win. Also, the money that is being saved instead of having to buy 2-3 systems just to play the whole spectrum of games. (albeit Nintendo) Lets see who can step it up. |

As long as both systems stay alive, I don't care. I have my PS3, and I'm happy with it. I've never had any desire to buy a 360.

However, as of late, sony has lost a good load of exclusive titles to Xbox and to PC. Most recently, Devil May Cry. |

To be honest, my first thought was "Yes. I'm glad I don't have to buy a Playstation 3 to get the games I want."
Then again, last generation, I never bought an XBox. So I'm still only buying 2 systems. I knew the PS3 would hit a snag, and I knew it would lose exclusives. It was why I instead "gambled" on the 360. I also disagree with the analogy to the Monday Night Wars. All and all, I'm more or less positive on non-exclusives. |

Yes and no. As a gamer I think it's cool, but as a PS3 owner I wish they were holding on to some of their exclusives.
The Xbox 360 games look better then PS3 games right now, and with the achievement system and Xbox Live, there's no reason to play something on the PS3 if you own both systems, especially since they are apparently bringing out HDMI output for the 360 soon. I do own both systems, and I think that they are both awesome, but I spent $500 on my PS3 and wish it was a little more then just a neat interface with 2 good exclusive games right now. I think it has a lot of potential, but the 360 is already an awesome system, so they need to catch up. |

It benefits the gamers in general, but if you blew all your money on a PS3 you lose out because 1. it's an assload of money for a system , and 2. it's a bitch to program for, apparently, so to make up the losses formerly exclusive titles are being multiplatform by their developers.
I'm probably gonna have all three systems this time around, simply because the Nintendo fanboy in me is not dead yet (he's on life support tho, poor little guy ![]() |

Well, that was one of the 3 big reasons the N64 didn't have a whole lot of support either: difficult to program for, cartridge based games and the kiddie moniker.
Nobody's gonna wanna make games for a system if it's gonna take longer to put out a game. It's just not cost effective. This is especially the case for those smaller developers, where a delayed game can mean bankruptcy. |

Yeah, no doubt. Sony should really step in and offer to help developers with their games, not in a tyrannical way, but to help more great games come out.

The fact is, Sony was courting developers, so they were willing to take the time to learn. Nintendo was pissing on developers, so they didn't. |

I see. Well, as a (admittedly novice) programmer, I can tell you no matter how good people tell you a particualr language is, you're not gonna want to use it, if it's a pain in the ass to work with.

Yeah, but put it this way: You have two equally complex languages, or at least comparably so. I won't pretend to be an expert on this, but you don't hang around with and be educated by programmers (My electronics professor, on top of serving in 'Nam, was a musician AND a programmer) without picking up a lot about this. Back then, this was apparently a big discussion point.
In any case, they're about the same. So what makes you favor the one over the other? N64 got a rep for being hard to program for despite being a similar "chore" to the Playstation. Basically, it'd be like two game systems, where they have similar graphics capacities, and one gets a rep for being better visually. Really, the Playstation wins because they were courting programmers. Now, the table has turned. They are the ones who are pissing off programmers by making their system hard, and bragging about it. This time, however, EVERYTHING ELSE is significantly easier to program for. The Wii is similar to the GCN, so it's familiar and relatively easy. 360? Also pretty easy to make good games. PS3? Yeah. "We may never see it reachs its full potential." Which means harder programming to get XBox level games. That is their albatross. |
